  1. The Russian army owns a large sniper rifle with high damage, enough to lower the target to wear heavy armor from a distance.
  2. Two years of fighting in Syria brought a series of valuable experiences for the Russian military, one of which was the optimal way for the snipers to fight on the battlefield. As a result, current Russian snipers are equipped with modern weapons, including guns capable of penetrating the latest armor for the US military, according to National Interest.
  3. In the past, the Russian military supplied two standard sniper rifles, Dragunov SVD and SV-98. Both guns use 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition, but their 7N14 armor ammunition can not penetrate ESAPI / XSAPI reinforced armor plates for US troops. That forced Moscow to develop a new triple sniper rifle, in response to the protective capabilities of the American armor.
  4. SVDK
  5. The SVDK sniper rifle was developed from the Dragunov SVD platform, where the K stands for "Krupnokalibernaya" (Large Gun). The main task of SVDK is to destroy soldiers wearing heavy armor or hide behind obstructions.
  6. This gun uses a 9.3x64 mm 7N33 steel core, developed from the same size model designed by the German hunters for elephants and African rhinoceros. The 7N33 is 40% more powerful than the 7N14 variants for earlier SVDs and SV-98s, which increases the ability to penetrate armor and obstacles.

  10. The SVDK is equipped with a 1P70 Hyperion viewfinder with 3-10 times the firing range, replacing the PSO-1 with 4x magnification on the Dragunov SVD. The gun can be folded for convenience of the soldiers moving, with the pads to the gunner's chin when firing.
  11. This gun is usually assigned to individual infantry companies or task forces with high accuracy (DMR) rifles, instead of being equipped to stand-alone sniper units. The SVDK rating is a valuable addition to the Russian military, ensuring the ability to penetrate all types of armor within a 600-meter range, while NATO does not own any weapons of similar character.
  12. Orsis T-5000
  13. The main weakness of Russian sniper rifles is their range. Dragunov SVDs have an effective range of only 600-800 m, while newer SV-98s are only effective at a distance of 1,000 m. Meanwhile, the US TAC-338 can lower the target at a distance of up to 1,550 meters.
  14. The main reason behind the Dragunov SVD and SV-98 are the size of the 7.62 x 54 mm ammunition designed in 1891. That prompted the Russian military to seek an alternative .338 Lapua Magnum 8.6x70 mm), highlighted by high accuracy at long range, also capable of penetrating all types of armor available in the world.

  17. The Orsis T-5000 is one of the first Russian sniper rifles to use .338 Lapua Magnum ammunition, which has an effective range of over 2,000 m. The T-5000 possesses a low recoil, a variable firing weight, a viewfinder system and a gun barrel covered with secret material to ensure accuracy.
  18. Thanks to the expert advice from the Russian Federation of Precision Shooting, Orsis has applied a number of cutting-edge technologies to the T-5000 series in 2011. The company is equipped with a range of unique tools and equipment. including a precision metal shaping machine, a digital-controlled furnace, a super-cold chamber and a unique abrasive cutter equipped with a video measuring system in Russia.
  19. Thanks to its high-grade materials, bulletproof, and modern sight-glass, the T-5000 has very high accuracy. A gunner can pierce a circle of 2.5 cm in diameter at a distance of 185 m, as well as secure a target shot at over 1880 m.
  20. ASVK and ASVKM
  21. This is a heavy sniper rifle that kills the enemy at long distances, which was developed in tandem with the SVDK project in the 1990s. ASVK is on a larger scale than its rival OSV-96. , as well as being used in actual combat in Syria.
  22. The ASVK uses a size of 12.7x108 mm, allowing it to penetrate all armor types as well as armor platoon tires. This sniper rifle has an effective range of 1,500 m, and is capable of dealing damage at a range of 2,000 m.
  23. The design of the ammunition box and the key ring behind the bullpup allow for a shorter gun length, similar to the US M95. However, unlike the United States, Russian designers put forward the need for a projectile in front of the gun, helping the gunners to manipulate easily and quickly.

  26. The modernized version of ASVKM was developed in the mid-2010, using slightly lighter materials than the original. This enhancement helps the gun weigh 10 kg, 3 kg lighter than the famous American M107. The manufacturer also improves gun life, while also equipping the jaw compensator more effectively.
  27. While the SVDK and T-5000 were fitted only for a number of special units, the ASVK was mass-produced for the Russian military, including the active forces in Syria.
