New England Braces for Blizzard Ahead of New Hampshire Primary

  1. Parts of the Northeast could get walloped with more than a foot of snow Monday, and accompanying strong winds could create dangerous road conditions just before New Hampshire residents gear up to cast their primary votes.
  2. Blizzard conditions were expected in parts of New England, with the eastern portion of the region expected to get about 5-8 inches of snow, while a stretch from Boston to Cape Cod could expect up to 12 inches by the time the storm passes on Tuesday, according to Kevin Roth, lead meteorologist for The Weather Channel.
  3. Winds gusting above 40 mph paired with the snow could create whiteout conditions in those parts of New England, Roth said.
  4. New Hampshire, which has its primary Tuesday, will remain under a winter weather advisory through at least Monday night. Snow showers there are expected to end on Tuesday afternoon, according to NBC meteorologist Bill Karins.
  5. A section of the Northeast from the northern tip of Maine down to Long Island was under winter weather advisories or warnings Monday.
  6. New York City can expect about 1-2 inches of snow later Monday and then the same amount will fall in parts of Jersey. But it's eastern Long Island that will get the brunt of the storm — with up to half a foot of snow and 30 mph winds — because the unique system is approaching from the Atlantic, according to meteorologists at NBC New York.
  7. The storm is expected to pass through by Tuesday, but the eastern portion of the country can only expect well below average temperatures to follow. Temperatures could stay below freezing as far south as northern Alabama and Georgia, Roth said.
