  3. The expiration date is often printed on the seat itself; if not, check the instruction manual for each car seat you own or give the manufacturer a call. This chamber allows us to perform tests replicating an expected life span of the seat. I am aware this was posed a long time ago but am shocked reading through the responses.
  4. He is a manufacturing engineer and couldn't see why they would expire. So there are no ramifications from an insurance standpoint for using an expired child safety seat.
  5. They can also provide guidance about what other seats might work for your particular vehicle model. The same goes for the fabrics. That means you have no excuse for not tossing it. Does anyone know anything about this. You would, at a minimum, need to store it in some sort of hermetically sealed bag. We were in an accident that totaled my car. I provide resistance daycare and try to find ones from people I know that I can use for the kiddos when their children have outgrown them, however, I see them at thrift sales on a regular bases years past their expiration date. If, heaven forbid, you were ever in a car accident and it were past its expiry date, your insurance won't honour it, and it may cause problems if your child is injured and you need the insurance to cover that. Absolutely not worth it. I didn't even KNOW that car seats expired. Our brand new Recaro won't even last until it should weight wise which is why we bought it. It converts to a booster, but she will still need it in 5 years and it will technically have expired. Where have they stored it at? PP is right in regards to insurance issues. We got our britax roundabout for 149. It's slightly smaller than the marathon and goes up to 50 pounds. It's what I have in my car. I just did an internet search and watched a video of a crash dummy in a crash test with an expired car seat. I guess we will be getting a car seat soon instead of using my niece's car seat Car seats expire, depending on brand, 6 - 10 years after manufacturing date. I don't know how old your niece is, but it may or may not still be within date. I'd get the date checked and check the manufacturer's website for how long they're good for, if you're still wanting to use it though if your niece is 10, definitely no point! Just buy a new seat.
