One Republican senator said the possibility that President Trump would order attacks on North Korea was as high as 70 percent if Pyongyang continues its nuclear test.
"I think our ability to use a military solution is three-tenth," Republican senator Lindsey Graham predicted in an interview with Atlantic magazine.
According to the politician, US President Donald Trump is likely to attack militarily to prevent North Korea from developing long-range nuclear missiles that could reach US territory.
"If North Korea conducts another nuclear test, the seventh test, I think (the likelihood of a war with North Korea) is 70 percent," Graham said, adding that the president Trump mentions the Korean issue in a recent golf battle with him.
"The war with Korea will be a total war," Graham said. "It is not a raid on key targets. If you have to resort to military solutions, the purpose is not only to disable their nuclear capabilities but to be ready to take them down."
However, Senator Lindsey Graham said that perhaps the United States is still willing to negotiate with the North.
"A diplomatic effort at the forefront will continue," US Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters at the Pentagon on Dec. 15. On the other hand, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also called on North Korea to end the weapons test to facilitate talks between the two countries.
