People can be influenced by their environment Chris When Donald Trump first announced that he is running for President of the United States, I, like many other people, mock the idea. I think to myself about why a celebrity, not a politician, would be running for president. My family have the same thoughts as I do, as they scoff and dismiss the idea of a “President Donald Trump”. When I turn on the television and listen to the panelists on news networks about the insanity of his decision. Throughout the year, I retain the same political views my relatives and the news outlets. In June of 2016, my opinions of Trump begin to shift. Since I am on the YouTube for a portion of my day, I see plenty of video recommendations. One particularly caught my attention, with a title “Trump Supporters Stump Protesters”, by the notorious company, Infowars. I look hesitantly at the video, wondering if this is another video with a misleading title. I choose to click the video, with my curiosity arising. After watching the video, I notice that the title is not misleading and I realize to myself that I do agree with the Trump supporters who appear in the video. I overlook my realization of agreement, thinking that Trump might have one good policy. But I still deem Trump to be a buffoon. A month later, another recommendation shows up on my feed. This time, it is a video by a person named Paul Joseph Watson. This time, it is about critiquing Trump protesters. After finishing with this video, I notice again that I agree with the content of the video. I begin to investigate and research about Trump’s policies. I begin to watch compilations of clips of news outlets manipulating people’s words, or a protester acting deranged. I read online discussions that reveal misrepresentations towards the Trump administration. My family still have the opinions about Trump. Since I didn’t hear them bash about his presidential campaign at the dinner table often, and that I utilize the Internet for a majority of my time, I come to revelation that Trump is not as bad of a person than what people portray him as. I realize that who I choose to watch or to read online has assisted in forming my opinion. Before the election, I completely transform into a Trump supporter, with my subscriptions for social media going towards right wing sources. Whenever my relatives have the opportunity to ridicule Trump, I teach myself to keep quiet and nod my head.
