ELEVATORS COULDN'T BE ANY STRONGER TO PREDICT. Even though some have fancy interiors and others are simple and useful, this isn't a big surprise. That's what makes this elevator in a former Macy's warehouse in Long Island City so special. When you step into this elevator, you go from the everyday to the unbelievable in an instant. When the boring doors open, a swirling, psychedelic scene with deep reds and a natural shape that looks more like a cave full of wonders than a way to get from one floor to the next appears. Textures and mirrors trick the eye into thinking it's much bigger on the inside, and small mechanical monsters peek out of holes in the walls and ceiling. The old Macy's warehouse used to be a place for artists to hang out, and the elevator is all that's left of what used to be a building full of tart installations in the same surreal style. The current owners have changed the building so that it looks more like a normal office space, but the strange elevator is still there. Find out before you go https://mapquestdirections.io The elevator is in a private office building called "The Factory," so access is not guaranteed and should be checked in advance. The elevator for getting into The Factory is in the back of the building.
