Green Party Election Simulation In our political party simulation, I feel I learned a lot about my party, the Green Party, and their ideals. I learned that my Libertarian views have much more in common with the Green Party than I would have ever thought, learning about the Green Party and even running as mock president under the Green Party really opened my views and cleared the misconception that the Green Party supporters are a bunch of ultra-conservative environmentalist “hippies”. In reality, the Green party has a few radical views, especially as the name is regarded in application to environmentalism and sustainability, as well as civil right issues where the Green Party mandates immediate affirmative action, but they have moderate views pertaining to human rights, drug usage, education, and foreign policy. In our group, I was the natural group leader (along with Saad Dad) and hence the presidential candidate. I had the work evenly distributed among everyone, and in the end our group produced a successful, second-place winning campaign, which, in retrospect, is amazing considering in America the Green Party gets so many national votes the majority of Americans don’t even know it exists. Our Green Party pamphlet was simple and to the point, expressing only the basics of the party, letting the reader decide what they want, reflecting the Green Party’s views. Our poster accordingly advertised the Green Party for what it was. The magic of our group’s work was in the Campaign Video and speech. The campaign video was directed towards a high school’s freshman’s audience; hence it contained teenage humor and a very “dumbed-down” version of the Green Party’s ideals. I was able to captivate the audience by providing a video with accurate Green Party information (almost propaganda) and overlay it with pop-culture references, which helped assimilate the political “propaganda” into the viewer, while proving the entertainment they want. This tactic was somewhat successful as I stated earlier, one of the smallest political parties won second place in the presidential election. The second half of the “magic” was in my presidential speech, which focused on delivering the point of perfection of the Green Party to the audience. The speech was at a high competency level, using “big words”, which spoke power and meaning towards the academic minds whom were voting. Ultimately, it was the Speech and the Video which elicited the results he Green Party received. The project was a success, and even while I have absolutely no affiliation with the Green Party, nor will I ever, I found it very interesting to take on an opposing side and try to convey an audience to agree with me. I am happy with the outcome of this project.
