Let's for a minute, go with the notion that DA isn't a ranking factor (which it isn't), Google has mentioned more than once on various blogs and sessions with Mueller and elsewhere, that they don't use Analytics statistical data (like direct traffic) or any of the like, for ranking purposes. And even if they did use the data (which again, they swear they don't), what about those that don't use Analytics? How would Google know if I just typed a site's URL in my browser or, if it was bookmarked in my browser's "Favorites" and navigated to a site that doesn't use analytics? That wouldn't either count or represent a valid statistic to use for ranking, would it.
Sure, traffic matters. It's what we all want for our sites. However, how we get our traffic is a by-product of great content/products/services and how our sites are marketed and received by the public.

Sure, traffic from SE's and Social media certainly counts, be it organic or paid traffic, but that is another story entirely. 

So, when someone says "your ranking will increase with increased traffic", well, that's just not true and that would be like putting "the cart before the horse".

I have seen first and that when a website get clicks for search term x and the user metrics , bounce rate time spent on page are good they increase in ranking. I have seen when you come up for keywords that you didnt intent to and people bounce because of that your rankings for that keyword will drop. Because its not relevant. 

Beside that having direct searched on your brand name is a indicator to google that you have some kind of offline presence or online brand presence I have seen people use this tactic to get their brand name as a suggested keywords for search terms within their niche. 

BUt yes everything start wit the content and ow you market it across your world. Increased traffic is no guarantee of a increased ranking. What did that user search to get to your site.. is it a bot.. how long did they stay on the website... are they returning traffic... there are many more factors that this Im sure. 

If it were as simple as op suggested I could get 10000 bots sto search me for keywrods and have super rankings easily... i dout very much google doesnt have a plan against this sort of thing.
