This topic is coming again and again over this forum. If you are planning to use AWS for cPanel shared hosting server then I would like to say there is nothing like a real cloud with this. It's just the marketing term "Cloud". As cPanel is not having the architecture to host over the cloud platform. And as mentioned by @LinuxFox Lightsail is just similar to VPS instance and nothing other than that. 

For cheaper alternative try with some good provider get VPS and install cPanel over this, it will save a lot of your bucks. Also if you are looking for the long-term use, AWS cost much higher than the dedicated server environment.

@Demoxing You cannot sell "Cloud Hosting" if you get a single virtual instance hosted on AWS. Whoever suggest that has no idea what they are talking about. In order to offer a Cloud Hosting, you do not need a stand-alone server, that resides on the Cloud, you need a Cloud computing setup. You can create one on AWS, but this means to buy at least 4 or 6 separate instances - 3 or 4 to be used as compute nodes (CPU, RAM, etc) and 1 or 2 as storage servers. This would make your setup (based on the configuration) a Cloud.

Finally, you won;d better for with any of the web hosts presented at WHT who has Cloud infrastructure, rather than going with AWS.

I spun up a Lightsail just for fun and at least on my node it didnt have great disk performance.

In the long run, it's most efficient to own the hardware. Amazon is not the best solution for shared hosting servers. Just order a VPS or Dedicated Server to host cPanel.

Interesting, you'd think it would be using at least the standard EBS GP2 SSD, if not EBS optimized.
