Chapter One - Darkness Awaits It was dark in the alley. Joe was running as fast as he could. Three boys were chasing after him. Dead end. He had nowhere to go. He didn't know what to do. There was a laughing sound. He turned around and saw the boys right behind him, and they were laughing. Joe heard the names they were calling him and he climbed up the wall behind him and started to run. Joe felt like he had been running for hours. So he stopped and turned around. The boys were gone, and so was his breath. He needed to rest. So he immediately ran to a shelter to sleep for the night or two. When Joseph awoke, he looked at a house with a donut box out on a table. He saw a man walk inside. He immediately ran to the table and grabbed the box. He heard the man walk back out and he bursted out of there. “Hey!” The man yelped, but it was too late. Joe was already half a mile away. Joe was still running even after he heard the man. He was so hungry! He stopped to take a break. Joe opened the box of donuts, and found only one. “This will be enough” Sighed Joe. Joe put the donut down and thought, should I really be doing this…? Joseph was about to eat the donut, but then he turned it around and saw green mold that looked as disgusting as a child eating with their mouth open. Joe shivered in disgust as he walked away. He wondered if he could find food anywhere else. Joe thought about it for a long time. Ten minutes passed. 20 minutes passed. Time flew by like a rocket blasting off into space. Joseph sat there the whole time just waiting. Three hours had passed, and Joe was still sitting there. The sun was now becoming a sunset, and the moon was slowly coming up into the sky. The stars prepared to show their glowing rays as time passed. It was about eleven o'clock when Joe decided it was time to find shelter. He started to walk around the streets, and off into the woods, hoping to find any shelter better than a street to sleep on. He found some luck and came upon a cabin in the woods. He knocked. No answer. He next decided to attempt to open the door knob. The door unlocked. He heard a loud noise and the door shut. Joseph had to think fast, so he hid behind a couch placed by a wall. He tried to fit in it, but he couldn’t. He dove under a blanket and then he heard a gunshot. Silence.
