A lot of people are scared that they will lose their jobs because of new technologies that are cheaper for companies to use, so the company will have no use for people anymore. Some of these new technologies are things like a self service checkout in stores, so the store doesn’t need anyone to work at the tills anymore (if they get any better), or robotic arms that can replace current factory workers. Another place where people are getting replaced by machines is in banking. Customers are now able to do most of their banking online, or through a cashpoint outside the bank. This includes making withdraws, depositing money and applying for loans. A lot of people are less scared because most of the jobs that people had before these technologies were things like farming, which are much smaller sectors now, and most of the jobs that people are doing now didn’t even exist that long ago, so some people are saying that by the time people have been completely replaced by machines in the current job positions, there will be new jobs that people are in. Although, a counter argument to this is that a lot of the new jobs in the new companies are positions in companies such as Google, or Amazon, which are companies that make a lot of money, but they don’t have many employees, because the customer never needs to talk to anyone, so the companies only need staff to develop the software they use.
