Rsync.net Questions I'm trying to setup a backup plan for my website. I had gotten a Hertzner Storage box but it seems like I need shell access for the incremental backup to work with Rsync. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ list of top cheapest hosting http://listtop.pw/ Top 200 best traffic exchange sites http://listtop.pw/surf list of top gpt sites list of top ptc sites list of top ptp sites list of top crypto currency Wallets sites Listtop.pw Listtop.pw Listtop.pw +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Anyway, I ran across rsync.net and I wondering if anyone can vouch for them? Im curious if there are any other similar options. Am I right in assuming since at max I would have 80GB (this is the storage I have with my hosting plan) that the most I could pay is $6.40? Im interested in having one full backup to start obviously and then incremental backups, I don't think I need more than a couple snapshots, I guess Im just curious how the snapshots would affect the total data I have stored and therefore pricing. Anyone know of any other storage boxes which would support rsync incremental backups? Anyone know of any other storage boxes which would support rsync incremental backups? You could set up a Storage VPS or Dedicated server and Rsync to that (you would manage it yourself and have full root access). Hetzner Auction Servers are great for that, or you could get a Hetzner Cloud VPS and mount the Storage Box to that with CIFS. Then you could use it and the Rsync would go to your VPS where you have root access (and then it would be stored on the storage box). ~Tyler Morrison~ "I like vending machines, because snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at the store, oftentimes I will drop it so that is achieves its maximum flavor potential." ~ Mitch Hedberg A lot of the Storage VPS or archive/cold storage type systems don't have so good Disk IO/IOPS or even network port speed which is important to have faster backup/restores. You can choose a backup hosting account if you check backup services forum at WHT. Loads of providers there who will simply offer a cPanel account with lots of storage powered by CloudLinux/CageFS (for security) and you will have SSH access so you can easily configure SSH keys, cronjobs and push or pull rsync backups, etc. Fast Host - Cloud Hosting w/ LiteSpeed & Imunify360 Security Backup Storage - Backup Storage w/ SFTP, SSH & cPanel Access You could set up a Storage VPS or Dedicated server and Rsync to that (you would manage it yourself and have full root access). You can find the information by going to our customer wiki, or "DokuWiki", and searching for storage boxes. There is a section in the article about rsync. While they do now support rsync they don't support interactive shell so the prefered 'SSH' method used by JetBackup won't work, which is a huge shame. As WHMEasyBackup just transfers backups over FTP though it would work fine. They've had some issues / some of the latency we have to them isn't the best (not on their end -- just a geographical problem). All in all they're solid and are pretty straight forward. Luis Azario Softvirtual Internet Services Just bumping in to clarify a few things Are you familiar with Hetznet Storage Box ? Can I use it to copy with Jetbackup or whmeasybackup ? I am familiar with their FTP solution, and can confirm it's working, however we did experienced some IO & latency issues with them. From their storage boxes we got to work with (through JetBackup users), users complained on very slow jobs and while investigating we noted a very poor IO performance. They did mentioned their services just upgraded (also included rsync now), so I believe performance should be better now as they are usually a very stable provider. While they do now support rsync they don't support interactive shell so the prefered 'SSH' method used by JetBackup won't work Although Rsync.NET doesn't support interactive shell, JetBackup should work exactly like the regular 'SSH' method, it's exactly the same (we use the same engine for both). Besides you not being able to login yourself and perform some shell commands, you shouldn't see any difference from the JetBackup side. I do however recommend using JetBackup 3.2+ as we did some changes in that version to play nicer with rsync.net systems (performance wise). But I will test rsync with different backup scripts when I get the chance. Cheers. Does rsync on Hetzner storage box work with JetBackup? It doesn't work with cPremote as tested it. So if it works with JetBackup then JetBackup has one over cPremote. Luis Azario Softvirtual Internet Services @elialum it doesn't work with WHM backup when Rsync is set to be used as destination. Never tried it myself, but if @hetzner_OL will be kind enough to provide us (JetBackup) with a test account, I will be more then happy to have a look & implement. --- JetApps - cPanel Backup, Migrate and replicate your Data ! He (Alexander P.) doesn't have an account here on WHT, but he'd be happy to talk to you about this. He checked out some of the JetBackup documentation and couldn't give it a clear "yes" or "no" answer. Could you perhaps write directly to Alexander P via our support page? (WHT rules prevents me from giving you a direct link.) To get there, go to our homepage, look for Support in the top right corner, and then on the support page, click on the email icon. Let us know what kinds of features you need and mention "storage boxes" and "Alexander P" and your question will be directed to his personal queue. Thanks in advance! Just a follow up to update I was able to contact directly the technical staff at Hetzner with the kind help of @hetzner_OL, seems like the technical implementation should be rather easy, they where also kind enough to consider some changes we need for JetBackup to make the whole process easier (not a "must", but will be nice). The only "roadblock" currently is that we will need an active test account (nothing fancy, can be limited to 5GB for example), and seems like this is something they can't / want to provide. That's a shame, but they are only €2.90/month... Yeah, I will probably purchase a plan once they will implement the minor changes we asked for (they already approved they will do it). Their approach took me by surprise, it's a mutual interest for both of us. But then again, as it's very cheap... so who cares anyway I was able to setup jetbackup with 500 G storage box from two VPS at diffrent providers. I was able to setup Destinations and create Jobs to copy all my domains. Will let you know how it worked. Thanks for the follow up, JetBackup should work without issues on any "ssh over linux" device. Our issue is with providers that limits the interactive shell (like rsync.net), so we have to do some workarounds to make it work with JetBackup. Thanks ! --- JetApps - cPanel Backup, Migrate and replicate your Data ! JetServer - High quality premium webhosting ! Ok, I am not sure if my Storage Box make use of Rsync capability or not. Luis Azario Softvirtual Internet Services Sorry to bump, I have been looking at the hetzner storage boxes and wondered if it now worked with jet backup using rsync ssh? Doesn't seem to be completed yet, James https://request.jetapps.com/topic/he...ox-support-ssh Fast Host - Cloud Hosting w/ LiteSpeed & Imunify360 Security Backup Storage - Backup Storage w/ SFTP, SSH & cPanel Access Hi James, Hetzner storage support is still on the works and is currently planned to be implemented in version 4.1 To track for the most recent updates on this, just visit the feature request thread from the link that Chris posted. And as an FYI, obtaining a high number of votes for feature requests from our community is the best way for our dev team to gauge demand and see which features to try and implement first. Thanks! Thanks for the update, it does have 800 + Likes already. Do you know when version 4.1 may be released? Thanks. Hi There James, Our Development Team is currently hard at work with version 4.1 and its going through lots of changes and improvements. We can't wait to share more with you in the coming months and will let you know once we can commit to a release date. Best Regards. I do however recommend using JetBackup 3.2+ as we did some changes in that version to play nicer with rsync.net systems (performance wise). John Kozubik here - owner and founder of rsync.net. I can confirm that JetBackup works very well with our platform and we have many hundreds of customers who use rsync.net as a jetbackup target. You also have the option of pointing a "dumb" 1:1 mirror backup to us, with no retention or versioning, and we can configure and maintain ZFS snapshots of your entire dataset on our end. No retention management is needed on your part and the snapshots are immutable (read only) so an attacker with your credentials cannot wipe out your account. It is correct that we do not allow an interactive SSH login, but you can run a (limited) selection of commands *over ssh* like this: ssh user@rsync.net mkdir some/dir/whatever I hope that is helpful. g suite domain hosting www.world-of-bitcoin.com l make money moves tennesseefix.com domain join windows 10 hosting job description hosting plik贸w na forum collabora365.com clixtoyou.com topsurfer.com
