Pieter Both Pieter Both was a real person and the first ever Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. He drowned with his ship within the Mauritius territory and near the mountain itself. That is why the mountain was named Pieter Both in honor of the great leader who died near it – it is one of the places to visit in Mauritius. Today, the Pieter Both of Mauritius is a very popular tourist attraction. Visitors’ schedule their rock climbing trips in Pieter Both, the second tallest mountain in the country. They say it takes about 60 minutes to get to the top.
