Hi Guys, I have a desk job that involves all day sitting in front of a computer, so you may understand the consequences of my physical inactivity, especially as to how the sitting related to the size of my belly. The sitting for most of the day causes me putting on weight, particularly around the middle. I am generally in a good health but I hated the extra weight around my stomach so I decided to do something about it. We all know, the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume; basically you must create a negative calorie balance. As I lack the time to do exercise or move around more, I decided to lose my belly fat by following a healthier diet and reducing the calorie intake. According to my internet research you must create a 3,500 calorie deficit to lose a pound of fat, and I wanted to lose 2kg in 10 days with dieting only. So I spent some time researching intermittent fasting diets and decided for the next 10 days to follow the Alternate-Day Fasting Diet. In a nutshell, this diet involves alternate day fasting, eating very little (400 – 600 calories) on one day followed by eating what you would normally have the next day. I followed this diet for 10 days and it was FANTASTIC, I lost my 2 kg and now I feel lighter, more energetic and generally healthier. It was very easy to start; no buying cook books, fancy ingredients or planning calorie controlled meals. The first two days of fasting for me were definitely a challenge, but after that there was no problem. Some fasting days I wasn’t eating at all, I was having just coffee and tea with some milk and plenty of water during the day. Drinking plenty of water helped me supress my hunger in the first fasting day. I simply did not eat from 7pm one night (right after dinner) to 7pm the next night, then ate normally until 7pm the following day, etc. So basically I skipped breakfast and lunch every other day. The first 2 eating days I tried not to go mad and gorge myself. As time went on, I found that I naturally ate less on the feast days. Why? I am not exactly sure. In my eating days I ate less food which consisted of plenty of fruit, veg, whole grains, pulses, lower-fat dairy products and lower-fat protein-rich foods such as lean red meat, poultry, fish and eggs. During fasting days my sleep wasn’t in any way interrupted by hunger and when I woke on the next day there was no desperate desire for food. The diet was challenging in the first fasting day bat later on it was easy, the benefits were unexpected as all sorts of things got better. Was it worth it? Most definitely yes, I achieved my goal, I lost the 2kg from around my waist and I felt lighter, more energetic and generally healthier and it kick started for me a longer-term healthy eating plan.
