Magdalena Island, Magallanes Region The Magdalena Island of Magallanes Region in Chile is one of the most frequented tourist attractions in the country. It is said that the island was “discovered” by Magellan during one of this travels. It is located in the Strait of Magellan and the island is elevated at 89 feet or 27 meters. Isla Magdalena, as people in Chile call it, is a viewing scene for breeding penguins. As of 2007, the records show that there are about 63,000 pairs of penguins breeding on the human-less island.
