Electricity prices have skyrocketed in Spain to such an extent that many modest families cannot afford to continue living in the 21st century, at least not fully. According to experts, factors such as gas shortages, rising carbon emission costs or a decrease in the supply of wind energy partly justify this energy shortage, although there are other elements that are difficult to justify. The current cost of electricity produced by renewable energy is cheaper than that produced by gas or coal. The weight of renewables is increasing, but the decrease in the global price is not reflected in the bill that consumers pay. The socialist government tries to contain prices by eliminating taxes on consumers and taxing the so-called windfall profits of power companies. However, the measures are not enough. After a weekend with slight decreases, the price of kWh was paid this Monday at almost 157 euros, triple what exactly a year ago.
