Sounds like there's a wet/dry mix control on the delay unit and you have it set to 50% or something (a common default).

So, set the wet/dry mix for the delay unit to 100% wet.

Yeah what I was going for was to get a chaotic modulation/feedback thing going with the delay effect and I have a guitar track to trigger it but I didn't want to hear any of the guitar.

Ahh, so the issue I had was I had an amp sim plugin on the guitar track.
So having the send post-fader, I could still hear that effected guitar coming through.
To solve this I either bypass fx on the guitar or I can set it to pre-fx on my receive. Also having it on pre-fader and experimenting with receive volume and track volume seems to have some different effects.
