The iron works but it is hard work because it just doesn't glide along the fabric as it should and some modern stretch fabrics start to burn before the crinkles actually come out. Firstly a simple design issue, in my opinion the iron is black and the water tank is also black making it incredibly difficult to see the water level when initially filling and when topping up. It heats up quickly and reponds well to temperature control changes. I read a review that said this iron was noisy. Effective calc clean system maintains steam performance for longer. The iron constantly spat water out, leaving the clothes with considerable streaks of water and wet patches. I bought this because I wanted to be able to adjust the temperature setting myself so disappointed about these other things. Purchased at: I am only an occasional ironer and this Philips iron meets my needs. When the iron was placed on its heel, water dripped out from the base of the sole plate. This one has failed totally after just over a year. With Philips PowerLife Steam Iron you can vertically steam hanging fabrics while our stop drip system will keep your garments spotless while ironing. A good iron will offer more reliable combinations of heat level and steam making it easier to successfully iron the sort of fabric which leaves a black deposit on the base of the iron. I read a review that said this iron was noisy. Love the extra long cable, just what I wanted. Philips GC3920 Powerlife steam iron - I read a review that said this iron was noisy. Non-stick, scratch-resistant and easy to keep clean. It really can do tge job and my clothes straight But the biggest problem of the iron is that it sticks with my clothes everytime when i am ironing which is pretty hard to get it off and also it forms some black thing on the plate afterwards which is hard to get rid of them. The warranty was for 2 years so maybe it was intentionally badly designed to make us go and get another one. I got philips because my mother had her iron for years, but clearly they don't make them of the same quality anymore so I have to look at other brands now. What a waste of products, plastic especially. It's bcs of businesses like these that our planet is covered in plastic waste. Purchased at: I am only an occasional ironer and this Philips iron meets my needs. Its lightweight, heats up quickly and seems to hold the right temperature. Steam works well and the cord is long enough. It does have some discoloration on the base but for the times I need an iron, this does just fine. This is a good looking iron which shouldn't matter but influenced my decisionand feels well made in the hand, being perhaps heavier than the average iron. It heats up quickly and reponds well to temperature control changes. I've had no problems with the spray or steam functions. I do wish the power cord was a bit longer but that's my only complaint so far. Otherwise I'm happy, it performs well. Purchased at: Just 'melted' my last clothing item. As others have said, this iron is hopeless. I thought it was just me, but even on lower settings it sticks to clothes particularly black for some reason and I have an immovable brown mark on the iron as well. I also find it spits bits out at irregular intervals. Can never tell when it will happen. Glad to have read these reviews to know it's not just me and I can safely bin this - despite the waste of money and the clothes now with marks. Bought this iron, plus another Philips productdue to brand name. Only used shop bought ironing water with it. Ok for about a year, then a brown sludge substance, rust coloured, started coming through the steam holes, staining the clothes. Also appeared as though there were bits of metal in it as well. Put the iron through a cleaning cycle, and could never rid the iron of this sludge deposit. Water in the reservoir always looked clean, but still the brown sludge continued to appear. Also had a tendency to stick to clothing even when using lower temperatures. In the bin with the other Philips product. We bought this iron a few years ago and have battled along with it sticking to most of our clothes. The iron works but it is hard work because it just doesn't glide along the fabric as it should and some modern stretch fabrics start to burn before the crinkles actually come out. At the weekend we went and bought a new iron because we just got fed up with it and our new iron made us realise how bad this one had been. Needless to say, our new iron isn't a Philips, nor will I be keen to buy a Philips iron again. Purchased at: Have been through many Phillips irons and always been happy however this one quickly became covered with back, sticky residue which despite trying a few different chemicals to remove is firmly stuck. A good iron will offer more reliable combinations of heat level and steam making it easier to successfully iron the sort of fabric which leaves a black deposit on the base of the iron. So after a few weeks am off to buy another one - with a non stick surface. The sole plate to this iron sticks to clothes and in my philips powerlife steam iron it's definitely the iron as my old Sunbeam never use to do this and the clothes and ironing board cover are the same. Whether the clothes be whites or blacks, it collects and burns material onto the soleplate which is hard to get off. If it happens once, the sole plate gets worse, pressing lightly alleviates the problem until the next sticky encounter. philips powerlife steam iron To remove the burnt material I've tried using bi-carbonate of soda while the iron is warmjif, sugar soap and in frustration steel wool which of course wrecked the sole plate. Descaling which involves filling the reservoir with water, pushing a slider to 'calc clean' then shaking the warm iron up and down over the sink is a joke. It removes little water, most of it stays in the reservoir. Mine may be an exception but I give the product bottom marks as I've had to throw it out. I would never buy a Phillips iron again. The label on my Phillips iron said 'With SteamGlide soleplate' which seemed to portray that it would glide easily but it got a brown stain on the sole plate within 2 weeks of buying it. I contacted Phillips who said this happens to all irons and is not covered under warranty. The booklet indicates the sole plate can be cleaned just by wiping it off, but this statement is false because the soleplate cannot be cleaned with water or anything else for that matter!. I cannot get the iron clean at all. Their warranty indicates the iron is covered for defects in material. I would say this is a defect in material and therefore Phillips do not back up their philips powerlife steam iron. I would never buy a Phillips iron again. You can't trust their product and philips powerlife steam iron can't trust their warranty. I bought this because I wanted to be able to adjust the temperature setting myself so disappointed about these other things. Philips Official Hi Ben, thanks for reaching out to us.
