f you blinked, you might have missed Aziz Ansari’s quick-witted Golden Globes gag in which he held up a fake book (“Losing to Jeffrey Tambor with Dignity”), letting us know his feelings on his nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical trophy. But, if Ansari has his way, this won’t be the first time he pulls such a prank at an awards show. In fact, it could become a long-running tradition. “If I’m a lucky enough to get [another] nomination … we’ll figure something out!” he told Yahoo Canada in a scrum following a panel for his series “Master of None” at the 2016 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. Unlike “Master of None,” which Ansari created, writes for and stars in, “Losing to Jeffrey Tambor with Dignity” wasn’t fully created by Ansari (”I just had someone design that for me,” he revealed to Yahoo). And he actually got his inspiration for the joke from a former fellow “Parks and Recreation” cast member who has previously organized last-minute on-screen pranks with her fellow Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical nominees. “Amy [Poehler] always does something interesting whenever she does those things, so I thought it would be funny,” he explained to Yahoo. While “Master of None” has received a season 2 renewal, according to Ansari, they have not begun writing for or shooting the new episodes and thus, cannot talk about the future of the characters or storylines just yet (he and co-producer Alan Yang joked that Season 2 will be “Master of None Babies”). But he did take a moment to reflect on the success of the show, most notably how it has changed the life of his parents, who star as his parents on the show. “They said they got recognized at Chipotle a few weeks ago!” he said, very seriously, during the panel. “It’s very surreal.”
