During the early 20th century, America was on a path to become the next world power. After recovering from the civil war, America had rebuilt itself and was now an industrial powerhouse. The power of the country was proven in the Spanish American war, when America defeated Spain and gained a large amount of land. The United States University is an embodiment of the power that America posses. We take pride in the fact that we breed not only the brightest young minds, but also the most successful and talented students that America has to offer. Our students move onto become leaders in government, heads of major corporations, and influential decision makers. We educate the men and women with the most potential, and train them to become leaders. The 20 young men and women that we have chosen are the best in America. They have exceeded the expectations of both their teachers and their fellow students, and with that they have earned admission to the most prestigious school in America, the United States University. One of the characteristics that we think all of our students should have is creativity. Creativity and imagination are two qualities that are vital to successfully complete many challenges and assignments that life throws at you. Stanford White gave us examples of his creativity in his architecture throughout New York City, and expressed himself in all of his pieces. Joseph Lincoln Sheppard, Edward Belimy, Fredrick Homestead, and Mark Twain all serve as fine examples of creativity in their journalism. They all covered the important stories of their day, and followed the political trends and issues that surrounded the country, as well as other breaking news that occurred. In addition Mark Twain wrote some of the most popular and historic novels in American literature such as, Huckleberry Fin and The adventures of Tom Sawyer. William James was also a great example of creativity. Many agree that he is the “father of American psychology” and he co-founded the American Society of Psychology. We at the United States University also believe in standing up for what you believe in. Nothing is more important than sticking to your morals and beliefs. Samuel Gompers is the perfect example of what we consider to be someone who fights for what he believes in. Throughout his life he tried to obtain higher wages for union workers, and went on to create the Federation of Labor. Chief Joseph is another shining example of a leader. When his tribe was in danger he collected them and moved them north to avoid a confrontation with American troops sent by the government. Although his attempt to protect his people ended up being futile he still showed extraordinary courage. Walter Rauschenbusch exemplified his will to help his people by trying to spread the social gospel through his preaching, and his name is interesting. Other people who stood up for their beliefs were Alice Paul, Eugene V. Debbs, William Haywood, and Jacob Coxey. Finally we would like to acknowledge the industrial leaders. J.P. Morgan established himself as a “banker’s banker” early on in his career, and became incredibly successful later on. He later on leant our country 65 billion dollars in order to allow us to get out of debt. Cornelius Vanderbilt also became the leader in his industry by building railroads across New York. He also contributed by building Grand Central Terminal in New York. Henry Clay Frick created his own steal company and worked hand in hand with Andrew Carnegie. Finally William Gram Sumner gave his opinion on the economy and tried to contribute to the way the economy functioned. He supported the gold standard and believed that the economy needed no guidance. The students accepted to the United States University all have their own special talents or have contributed an enormous amount to their field of study. Their accomplishments throughout their lives have proven to us, the admissions board that they have the qualities that we look for in a good student. Whether they excel at providing leadership for their people, or create monopolies in their field of work, these young men and women have proven themselves to be the best of the best. These students will go on to be future politicians and leaders of America, and most likely exceed all of our expectations in the future.
