But I'm also considering the option of switching to MariaDB at that point. If anybody is familiar with the current position on these two what would you recommend would be the best option at this time? MariaDB is the pretty standard now. It offers several performance upgrades over older database management software. I have yet to have any issues upgrading our servers so I would not worry to much. Having said that, I upgraded to MySQL 5.7 last night because it appears that Maria DB 10.3 doesn't have native support for Federated Tables. Some servers use MariaDB, others use MySQL. No issues with either so far. For some reason though, people now prefer MariaDB, probably because of wider compatibility.
