CRYPTO-CURRENCIES NEWS: The organizer of bitcoin phishing in Connecticut pleaded guilty This week, a Connecticut resident pleaded guilty to crimes related to fraud and money laundering committed through an elaborate scheme of theft of crypto-currencies. On Tuesday, in the federal court of Hartford, 35-year-old Michael Rico of Wallingford, Conn. Admitted that he stole $ 365,000 in bitcoins through a phishing scheme. According to the US Department of Justice, he published a scheme with fraudulent links designed to remind of dark web markets. Prosecutors found that later Rico used this information to monitor the bitcoins of accounts and the balance of the victims. He admitted that he had stolen more than 10,000 user names and passwords, using them to further sell the victims' assets on the stock bitcoin platforms for American dollars. The reports do not provide any details about the nature of the stolen accounts, as well as whether they were software or placed wallets users. Rico was arrested last October on charges of computer fraud, unauthorized access and identity theft. Eventually, he pleaded guilty to money laundering and fraud, which provided for a maximum sentence of 30 years imprisonment. The verdict for Rico is planned to be rendered in September.
