Tom Savage of the Texans looks for a receiver in the second quarter against the Jaguars at NRG Stadium last Sunday in Houston. Tom Savage has been benched by the Texans, and his agent is not happy about it, saying, “I can't figure out why” after learning that rookie DeShaun Watson will call Houston’s signals Thursday night in Cincinnati. This may be savage treatment, according to Savage’s agent. Neil Schwartz, who represents Savage, sounded miffed when asked by ESPN.com about his client, who went 7-for-13 for 62 yards in the first half of Houston’s 29-7 home loss last Sunday to the Jaguars in NRG Stadium. “He went 7-for-13 . . . 12 of the 13 balls touched the receivers’ hands,” Schwartz said to ESPN.com. “The only ball that didn't was the strip-sack fumble that they called incomplete [upon replay]. Seven were completions, five were drops." You’ve got to sympathize for the psychology of people in Houston this week, and not only because they’re recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, but for the mess that Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has created with the apparent decision to start rookie Watson against the Bengals.
