Esta obra didáctica es fruto del encuentro entre Kilian Jornet, gran campeón de la resistencia en lugares de montaña, i Fabienne Durand, fisióloga del ejercicio apasionada por la montaña. El libro nos propone analizar los principales sistemas del organismo que participan del ejercicio, sus adaptaciones y sus límites en el contexto de la altitud. Se abordan problemas característicos de los atletas entrenados en la resistencia, como la hipereactividad bronquial, la hipoxemia del ejercicio o el estrés oxidativo. Se presentan un conjunto de elementos ineludibles, tanto del orden anatómico como fisiológico, de manera clara y sintética, complementados con apuntes, fotografías y figuras a todo color. Para ilustrar estas contribuciones científicas, en cada capítulo Kilian Jornet nos revela sus estrategias relativas al esfuerzo y sus límites, así como informaciones sobre la realidad de su práctica. Nos explica cómo utilizar sobre el terreno los datos fisiológicos para optimizar su entrenamiento.
