1. What is bitcoin tipping !? 2. 3. The context in which I understand what Bitcoin Tipping is, it is the ability to pay 5 cents, 10 cents, etc. to people online. This could be for a wide variety of purposes, but typically think of it as thanking someone online for the content they have published or how they may have helped you out. 4. 5. 6. Truly for the first time, we can say thank you (in monetary terms) - globally. 7. 8. 9. Published content helps the users (readers) to solve problems, be more knowledgable about a specific issue, have a question that is answered or perhaps you found someone's blog or podcast, useful. 10. 11. 12. In the pre-tipping world, how do you tip? You cannot. If someone wrote a nice blog article on how to remove a piece of malicious spyware from your computer, certainly that was helpful. Now with Bitcoin, you can tip them. Because Bitcoins have lot of pennies associated to them (1 Dollar = 100 pennies, 1 Bitcoin = 100 Million pennies, or Satoshis), making a small donation is now very easy. 13. 14. 15. Lets look at Quora for example, every upvote is worth 10 credits. What if every upvote was worth 10 cents. Wouldn't that be cool? Sure it would be uber-cool. The problem is, with your current payment system (Cheque, Credit/Debit cards, ACH, etc.) it is not possible but with Bitcoin it is. 16. 17. 18. As the amount being tipped is so small, one would usually not even think about tossing a few pennies (virtually) into someone's Tip-jar. The original concept of online tipping came from Second Life (the online virtual game), where people used to tip Linden Dollars all the time. 19. 20. 21. With Bitcoin tipping, a whole new ecosystem of contributing money to people on the internet opens up. From content publishing websites, to individual publishers, to search engines, to podcasters, to video bloggers, etc. 22. 23. 24. When Coinbase rolled out their tipping, we covered this in our Around The Coin podcast with fellow co-hosts Brian Roemmele and Mike Townsend.
