Has anyone successfully recovered from google penalty in September?
My site was ranking on page 1 with many keywords but dropped after google penalty for "unnatural links".
Even after disavowing bad links and submitted for reconsideration I'm still in no-mans land.

Has anyone restored their site or.....
Would you mind telling what kind of links did you built to get the "unnatural links" penalty? Just broadly, without giving out any details related to your website. If you bought them, have you contacted the seller and asked them to remove the links? If not, that's the first thing I would do.
If that’s the case then send social signals to your site, and use some powerful guest posts or premium pbns that should help you recover
My website keeps dropping too :(. Was getting about 350+ unique from google, now I am at 50. No penalties that they have informed me about, but the ranking drop tells me otherwise
based on the lack of response here I reckon a site cannot be recovered after a good google spanking!
