I saw a case study recently where someone had a site that had been penalised. They did their own audit and decided to remove some of the bolded keywords in content, the site slowly regained rankings to slightly better than before.

I saw a thread here recently after the latest Google updates about what had changed, and it showed something like 50% less websites ranking with bolded keywords, so I'd advise to skip it.

Although I myself have it on some sites. Maybe I should remove it.

Google loves things being as they should be. If something needs attention drawn to it then definitely use bold, but thinking of using it as an SEO hack is stupid. 
It'd just mean that you are trying to draw attention to every little thing which is not good for the user- and hence is bad in Google's all-seeing eyes!
It's always better to keep it natural.
never bold keywords. its really shallow approach. google doesnt want you to maximize your chances of ranking for a kw by writing SEOptimized articles. do you know how daunting it would be for visitor if u always bolded cheap viagra or whatever the kw is.

bolding kws is so year 2005. i do bold important links but not for SEO reasons but for readability reasons and imworried ill get minus trust points in google eyes for dat
it's better to omit them mate and more with the latest updates.
If your site is fine since before continue as it is no need to remove it
They've no factual effect on ranking. It'd be better to avoid them if possible.
