Halimah: I am the President of Singapore for Everyone

Singapore's elected president, Halimah Yacob promises to be the President of all people regardless of their tribe, religion, and language.

"I know some people doubt about the presidential election, but I am a president for everyone and I will serve everything without hesitation," he said as quoted channelnewsasia.com website, Wednesday (13/9).

He added that although there is basically no election, his commitment to service remains the same without the slightest discourage.

Halimah has been officially designated as 8th Singapore President by Returning Officer Ng Wai Choong today, Wednesday (13/9). With the determination, Halimah also officially print history as the first female president in Singapore.

Hundreds of Halimah supporters who gathered at the local Nomination Center Building welcomed the designation with cheers. Furthermore, Halimah thanked all the people of Singapore and called for unity.

Halimah's first speech was delivered in English as well as Malay.

"We need every Singaporean to stand together, shoulder to shoulder. We have not reached the top yet, the best is yet to come," said Halimah, who served as Speaker of the Parliament for 4 years.

After being officially confirmed as President of Singapore, Halimah will next be inaugurated at the Presidential Palace tomorrow afternoon around 18:00 local time.

Halimah served as President of Singapore after four other candidates were declared ineligible. Without any other competitor for Halimah, then no vote in Singapore is planned to be held September 23 next.

Thus, Halimah also listed as President of Singapore elected without voting.

Please note, for this year, the Singapore presidential election is specifically dedicated to the Malay community, meaning only members of the community can run.

According to the Constitution, presidential elections in Singapore can indeed be reserved for one community if no one in the community serves the President in the last five terms.
