Kebbi State Government has said it had settled pensioners with N79 million of N5.9 billion Paris Club refunds it received from the Federal Government. The commissioner, who further disclosed that about N7 billion had been paid so far to settle pensioners in the state, said the state deducted an average of N1.5 billion monthly to pay salaries of 19, 133 civil servants of the N2.7 billion received monthly from the Federal Government, a situation he said had been a major burden to the state. Augie said: “We received the first tranche and the instruction given to us by the Federal Government was to use it to settle salary arrears and infrastructure development. So, essentially, the first tranche went to gratuities and pension arrears. The other half went into infrastructure development. Augie confirmed that all the pensioners had gotten 40 percent of their gratuities.
