MYSQL latency issue lags issue
I have vps 1gb ram and currently running chat room in it which is based on php and mysql.

What is happening is sometimes chat lags and users can't see their message sent by them and its stucking for them.

How to know which is causing this issue? When I see my vps box always 400mb is free or 300mb is free but yet its lagging.

Could any one please give me some hint what causing this.

What is the load at? IO could be also be slowing it. And any connection limits set in the web server or php. And could be mysql connections. If not sure of those, do google searches to find them. Beyond that, best to get a sysadmin to look at and optimize if possible.

Is there a swap file? With less than 50% mem free, linux will tend to want to start swapping to disk.

Check for the server limit settings and connection there might be the culprits

in my mysql.cnf don't know if this is the problem. How much cache_size should be there?

have you tried using the tuning primer.sh file? https://launchpad.net/mysql-tuning-primer that should give you a benchmark to start optimising your values at least.
