  1. s the Lord answer? He says, “The Lord rebuke [not Joshua, who
  2. is a representative of the tried and chosen people of God, but] thee, O
  3. Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not
  4. this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with
  5. filthy garments, and stood before the Angel.” Satan had represented
  6. the chosen and loyal people of God as being full of defilement and sin.
  7. He could depict the particular sins of which they had been guilty. Had
  8. he not set the whole confederacy of evil at work to lead them, through
  9. his seductive arts, into these very sins? But they had repented, they
  10. had accepted the righteousness of Christ. They were therefore standing
  11. before God clothed with the garments of Christ’s righteousness, and
  12. “He answered and spake unto those that stood before Him, saying, Take
  13. away the filthy garments from him. And unto him He said, Behold,
  14. I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee
  15. with change of raiment.” Every sin of which they had been guilty was
  16. forgiven, and they stood before God as chosen and true, as innocent, as
  17. perfect, as though they had never sinned.
  18. The Encouraging Word
  19. “And I said, Let them set a fair miter upon his head. So they [the
  20. angels of God] set a fair miter upon his head, and clothed him with
  21. garments. And the Angel of the Lord stood by [Jesus their Redeemer].
  22. And the Angel of the Lord protested unto Joshua, saying, Thus saith the
  23. Lord of hosts; If thou wilt walk in My ways, and if thou wilt keep My
  24. charge, then thou shalt also judge My house, and shalt also keep My
  25. courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these

  27. that stand by.” I wish that all who claim to believe present truth
  28. would think seriously of the wonderful things presented in this chapter.
  29. However weak and compassed with infirmity the people of God may
  30. be, those who turn from disloyalty to God in this wicked and perverse
  31. generation, and come back to their allegiance, standing to vindicate the
  32. holy law of God, making up the breach made by the man of sin under the
  33. direction of Satan, will be accounted the children of God, and through
  34. the righteousness of Christ will stand perfect before God. Truth will
  35. not always lie in the dust to be trampled underfoot of men. It will be
  36. magnified and made honorable; it will yet arise and shine forth in all its
  37. natural luster, and will stand fast forever and ever.
  38. Words of Accusation Not of God
  39. God has a people in which all heaven is interested, and they are
  40. the one object on earth dear to the heart of God. [See appendix.] Let
  41. everyone who reads these words give them thorough consideration, for
  42. in the name of Jesus I would press them home upon every soul. When
  43. anyone arises, either among us or outside of us, who is burdened with
  44. a message which declares that the people of God are numbered with
  45. Babylon, and claims that the loud cry is a call to come out of her, you
  46. may know that he is not bearing the message of truth. Receive him
  47. not, nor bid him Godspeed; for God has not spoken by him, neither has
  48. He given a message to him, but he has run before he was sent. The
  49. message contained in the pamphlet called the Loud Cry, is a deception.

  51. Such messages will come, and it will be claimed for them that they are
  52. sent of God, but the claim will be false; for they a
