  1. Focusing on water and soil testing, we offer a range of environmental services from mineralogical services and bushfire fuel tests.
  2. Environmental Spectroscopy Laboratory
  3. The ESL has over 40 years of expertise in the use of field and laboratory spectroscopy for mineral, organic complex, soil and soil organic matter, sediment, waste and water analysis.
  4. Isotope analysis
  5. At the Environmental Tracer and Noble Gas Laboratory (former IAS, Isotope Analysis Service) we provide an extensive range of tracer analyses to study the terrestrial water cycle: aquifer and aquitard systems, groundwater - surface water interaction, infiltration conditions and flow velocities.
  6. Mineralogical services
  7. We have expertise in the identification and characterisation of minerals in soils and weathered rocks in Australian landscapes, novel methods of mineral synthesis, and quantitative techniques of mineralogical analysis using X-ray diffraction.
  8. X-Ray Fluorescence Laboratory
  9. We provide specialised X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) services including a range of sample preparation facilities and the analysis of a wide variety of sample types including soils, ores, mineral sands, and plant materials.
  10. Pyrotron: A national bushfire research facility
  11. The Pyrotron is used to study the combustion and spread of fires in bushfire fuel under controlled conditions. It aims to improve fire safety and fire-fighting for Australian communities.
  12. National Soil Archive
  13. The CSIRO National Soil Archive maintains a collection of soil specimens from across Australia. The Archive is an important resource for future soil research, storing over 71,000 soil specimens, collected from around 9,500 sites Australia-wide.
