  1. CopywritingTip
  2. Hey everyone.
  3. Recently I was reading about how to improve at Copywriting and found this great piece of advice
  4. I thought I'd Post it here and give you a quick copywriting tip.
  5. When you're talking about the benefits of your product or service, frame it in a positive way. Instead of saying "stop wasting time", say "get more done".
  6. There are 2 big reasons why you want to do this.
  7. The first reason is that, according to a study ( Jacob, Nelson, and Hoyer, 1982 ), negative frames ("don't do X" ) require more processing power than positive frames ( "Do Y"). The negative ones are harder to read.
  8. The second reason you want to do this is because negative frames can backfire.
  9. Let's do a quick experiment, shall we? :)
  10. For the next 5 seconds, I want you to NOT think of an elephant.
  11. Chances are, you thought of an elephant even though I told you not to.
  12. Now, elephants are cool and won't wreck your copy so it doesn't really matter if you think about them or not.
  13. But when we're talking about stuff like benefits, spam, and money back guarantees, it DOES matter.
  14. When you say "Don't worry, we won't use your email for spam",
  15. you just made people think about being spammed. You gave people a reason to worry.
  16. Just say "your info is safe" instead.
  17. It's subtle. It's powerful. And it only takes a second to fix.
  18. Hope this helps :)
