French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has suggested that headscarves must be banned from universities in France. Notably, France banned students from wearing headscarves, crosses and turbans to state schools in 2004. Further, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy banned the 'niqab' (face veil) from all public places in 2011. However, Valls' stand was opposed by the Higher Education Minister.
