Barça without Iniesta is like a chair without a leg. It is unusual, out of place but still functional. Club captain Andrés Iniesta is part of the furniture at Barcelona being with the Catalans since 1996. To put that in to context, Marlon Santos, who made his league debut last season, was just one year old. At 33 years of age, Iniesta is by no means past it as a footballer but there have been question marks over whether he is still able to consistently perform at the level in which Barça require.
The coming season is the end of his current contract but it seems the uncertainty of whether to renew has not come from the club but rather from the player himself.
