  1. How to: SE a free iPad, iPhone or iPod!
  2. the 'battery' method

  4. Before we get started, allow me a minute to give you a brief overview of how this method started.
  5. My best friend use to work for Apple as a Tier 1 iOS Technical Support Advisor providing phone support from a call center in Australia. Throughout his 9 months in this position. He received multiple calls from customers who were clearly trying to SE Apple, thankfully I didn’t get all the info on that from him because im sure its endless, but 90% of the time they would be transferred to Tier 2.
  6. The logging system that Apple uses (iLog) is great, it tracks all the notes from any Advisors that had been in contact with the customer regardless of the department they are from.
  7. A lot of my down time was spent digging through cases and figuring out how the other departments handled issues. Anyway! That is how I came to develop this method! Enjoy!
  8. Step #1
  9. You will need to obtain a serial number for a device the same as you want to receive.
  10. For this example we will be using the serial number for a White iPhone 3GS.
  11. Step #2
  12. Find some battery swollen related pictures of a device that matches the one your got the serial number from. The worse the battery looks the better!
  13. In our case is it a White iPhone 3GS.
  14. Step #3

  17. Now, call Apple and make your way through all the prompts until you are speaking to an Advisor. They will ask you for the serial number for the device you are calling about, happily provide them the one you obtained earlier and just let them know that you need the device registered under your name as you just recently purchased it off eBay.
  18. When they ask how they can help you explain that your device was on charge when you went to sleep and when you woke up realizing that your alarm didn't work you grabbed your phone off the bedside table and it was hot, hot enough to slightly burn your hand!
  19. Explain that you also realized it was leaking fluid on the bed side table.
  20. Tier 1 Advisors are trained to transfer a call to Tier 2 if certain keywords are mentioned during a call, in our case; burnt, explode, leaking and hot. So be prepared to be transferred! If for whatever reason they don't transfer you, ask to be transferred!
  21. Step #4
  22. By now you should be on hold while the Tier 1 Advisor 'consults' his Senior Advisor.
  23. This is when you want to start to sound slightly upset!
  24. While your speaking to the Tier 2 Advisor keep pushing the fact you slightly burnt yourself, that the phone wont turn on and that it was leaking fluid. They will request
  25. you to email them photos of the phone and possibly your hand, just send them the ones you prepared earlier. The Tier 2 Advisor will eventually set up a repair/replacement for you, make sure you request a Standard Replacement.
  26. Before you end the call with the Tier 2 Advisor make sure you request their contact details so you can 'contact them directly if you have any issues with the replacement'.
  27. Step #5
  28. Once you receive the return box in the mail from Apple your ready to contact your Tier 2 Advisor again using the details they provided you. Simply explain to them that your local and only post office wouldn't allow you to post the device due to the leaking fluids from the battery. Come up with an excuse why you need the phone urgently and sound very upset that you don't have a phone because the one you had 'blew up and burnt you'.
  29. Also, if they ask, the nearest Apple Store is to far to travel to.
  30. At this point either your Tier 2 Advisor is organizing a replacement for your OR they are transferring you to HR. If you have been transferred to HR just tell them to read the case notes and keep pushing the fact your not happy and that you got hurt from the device.
  31. DONE!
  32. Apple are known for their customer satisfaction, so if you force them to believe you can't send your old phone and that your 'extremely' upset they will do anything for you!
  33. Soo, you will now have a free device coming in the mail that should arrive in 3-5 days!
  34. Note: Remember to change your story around slightly and to double check your images!
