  1. I'm A Celebrity star Rebekah Vardy has opened up about a past suicide attempt and suffering from postnatal depression in a candid chat with her campmates.
  2. Speaking on Tuesday night's show (28 November), the 35-year-old mother of four revealed her struggles with mental health during a discussion about suicide with fellow contestants Stanley Johnson and Iain Lee.
  3. After Lee explained that he had experienced 'suicidal thoughts' in the past, Rebekah responded: 'You draw from experience don't you; I tried it when I was younger when I was 14.'
  4. To which Iain replied: 'Wow, that's incredible; I'm sorry to hear that. It breaks my heart to think that as a 14-year-old you would consider doing something like that, but it is really common. Did you get help?'
  5. Rebekah continued: 'No. Because when I was that age it was something that was pushed under the carpet and it had such a bad effect on me and I made such horrific decisions in life and I got to a point after I had my second child where it just hit me and it does because you can't run from it forever and that is what I was doing.'
  6. She then opened up about her experiences with postnatal depression, and revealed the treatment she received:
  7. 'I had really bad postnatal depression with my second, it's like Pandora's box opens and when it opens you have to deal with it. It was a knock on effect after that,' she said.
  8. 'I had CBT therapy which changes your brain's thought process, I had to counsel and I was on anti-depressants for a while and then all of a sudden things just started getting better because you learn to deal with things and you need to talk and talk helps you overcome so many things. It is so different now.'
  9. If you have been affected by the issues covered in this article, speak to your GP or call the Samaritans on 116 123.
  10. I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! continues on ITV tonight at 9 pm.
