Been a while that I wrote something useful, I've seen that my sticky is still popular and I really like the positive vibes from the newbies so that inspired me to write this post.
What this post about?
Basically just some guidelines, tips and things to watch out for based on my own experiences.
For who?
New marketers in general as most veterans most likely already know most of the things I will talk about.
Why?
Cuz I feel like it :D but mostly to help out the new guys and girls, I had to figure out everything in life on my own and I would have loved it if there was some guide for the things I went through.
Disclaimer
Now OFC I can't guarantee anything and in the end it's you whose responsible for your success ;)
Stay away from alcohol and drugs
So, as often with life 2018 again did not exactly went the way I wanted it to go. Besides my trip to MisterF's villa in Spain the year was pretty shit.
Main reason: Addiction! Yes I pretty much wasted 2018 drinking not giving a fuck and all my profits were spend on vodka and whiskey.
It got to a point that I pretty much drank about 5-6 bottles a week. Now I don't need to explain that productivity, creativity, inspiration and motivation went to shit and I barely got anything done.
So if you want to be successful in IM stay away from alcohol and drugs, they don't mix with anything but especially not if you have to earn your money yourself.
Luckily I am very resistant in life and picked myself up and this year only drank twice so far and productivity is going much better.
Pick what you want to do and stick with it
Now a lot newbies have problems to figure out what it actually is what they want to do which is ok, it takes time and research however pick something and stick with it. Don't be like me doing ten things at the same time because it will slow you down significantly.
The only reason why I'm doing it is because I have ADD and I'm all over the place but I wished that I could focus on just one thing.
Make a planning and follow through
This is also a big issue for me and no planning has slowed me down also. So once you found something you want to do make a planning!
Hang up a white board, make a planning in excel and print it out or install software like action machine.
You can buy it here, it's a CB product and not super expensive ($47) or you can get the nulled version here but it only works on windows 7 and XP.
Once you got any of those start planning out your day and make sure to take breaks! Simply because it's not super healthy to sit behind the computer for a too long period of time. In the long run you can get back, neck and joint issues.
This is how I usually start the day, check mail and messages on SM and forums I'm active on. Work on my projects for 2/3 hours, take a break doing some exercises for 30 min, working 2/3 hours take a break and do some work out. and watch some porn work 2/3 hours, break than usually work another 4 hours or so and then force myself to stop and do something fun like playing a game, the guitar or just go outside and have a walk.
I must admit that often I exceed times as I get distracted so fast or when I'm working on stuff for clients but I'm trying to do better. On a sidenote though, monday a PS4 Pro with Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive so most likely I will be gone for a couple weeks for everyone :D
But yeah, make a planning for yourself it will improve your workflow.
Stay away from social media!
Unless you need to be on there for business stay away for SM!! SM is probably one of the biggest distraction because 24/7 there is always something to see, to learn, to interact.
It's pretty much impossible to have a nice workflow with social media on the side, especially if you are ADD/ADHD.
Listening to music on YT? Select a listing, press play and minimize the browser or something because otherwise the chance is really big that you start with a song and end up at a totally useless video about the 100 ways you can fold paper into a bird at some origami channel and wasted hours of productivity.
Same goes for Facebook, check your messages and shit beginning and ending of the day but in between just avoid it as FB is designed to keep you on FB.
Stay away from politics and news
This last year has been my biggest issue. Now I firmly believe news is heavily modified to keep people fighting each-other and politics, well, IMO they are all crooks!!
I had a period that I let it get to be and then I would become frustrated because there is basically nothing you can do and that frustration would lead to anger, anger would lead to more anger and for me that resulted in "fuck it all, what's the point" and I would go drink.
So unless it's your niche, stay farrrr away from the news and politics because it's another time waster.
Sleep enough
Another issue many marketers and myself have, sleep problems. Most of the time it's purely because of things I wrote above.
It's better to at least one hour before you go to bed to just stop anything on your computer or phone. I have plenty of nights where I lay in bed and I just can't shut down my brain. "I need to configure these settings like this, wait I got a new idea, going to create a logo for a client like this" etc etc. Result is you will have sleep deprivation which also screws your workflow the next day because you're tired.
If this happens to you, don't take nap somewhere along the day even though you are very tired because chances are if you do you will be awake again at night and all of a sudden it turns into a pattern and you're stuck with insomnia.
Things you can do an hour for bed, meditate, take a walk, read some marketing book, clean the house whatever as long as it's not digital.
Write down what you want to achieve
Things I never did as I found all that kinda BS when some of these motivation gurus where talking about it but it does serve it's purpose because if you don't set goals you want to achieve then work gets boring real fast.
Write em down on some sticky notes and place em on your screen or hang something visual you want to buy some day on the wall to keep you going.
Don't set high expectations
So you just read that success story or learned a new method that people having success with or maybe you booked your first success, you all pumped up and can already see the big money rolling in.
This happens to all of us, especially when just starting out to most of the time find out it's all a lot harder than you thought it would be and things are not going the way you want, losing money, shitty clients etc.
What I just described is pretty much the biggest reason most people quite IM, hell, even I thought about quitting several times because it's never fun when things going the hard way instead of the easy way.
Due to my past and experience I have learned to expect NOTHING and it has served me well. If I don't expect anything I can't get disappointed :) that's how I look at it with everything. Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed.
Appreciate all little things that do work out and when something fails well you didn't expect to succeed in the first place so move on to the next thing ;)
Don't stay disappointed for long, don't stay angry
Another thing that has dragged me down many times and can lead you to bad paths. In my case it was alcohol and depressions and don't even think for a moment it can't happen to you because it can happen to everyone.
Being disappointed is a natural emotion and sure it sucks and often lead to being angry but if you master "expect nothing" it's a lot easier to move. Yes it sucks that you wasted your money on ads and didn't make a profit but will staying angry change shit? Nope so just say to yourself, fuck it and move on.
Besides in IM when you fail or lose money it's not a complete loss which I will explain in the next paragraph ↓
Learn from your mistakes
As said above, yeah it sucks when you have lost money or didn't get the amount of followers you were hoping for but hey that's how IM works. Fail 9 times and succeed 1 time which can make up for all 9 times.
So if you finished an ad campaign, monetized a video or site and it didn't work out the way you planned, start analyzing. Figure out what went wrong, where it went wrong, you can even ask some people and show them whatever you made and get some feedback so you won't make the same mistake again.
When done, try to improve, start testing different variables like a certain color, image, sound etc, then compare the two, take notes improve start testing again till you have figured out the right recipe for success.
That's all what it is really, failing and testing till you found the right way to do it and then scale it up.
Which leads me to the next thing which is also very important.
Accept that you will fail and lose money
Before even starting with IM you need to realize that a big part of IM is losing money and failing. As I already said it's not a complete loss as you will get valuable data in return but that you will fail and lose money is a fact and you need to accept this straight away.
Like the part about disappointment combine with this part is one of the biggest reason most marketers fail and quite.
"Pfff all this work, lost money, didn't make shit in return you know what, fuck it!!" andddddd they're gone.
But now you know all these things so you come prepared which will improve your chances to success.
On a side note: Never spend money you can't afford to lose ;)
Focus on long term setups
The internet is full with sleazy marketers that selling quick money bullshit methods and as long as people are buying they keep selling because people will always search for the fastest method with the least resistance.
I understand why they do it because you can scrape some easy money of newbies but I'm not that kinda marketer and I hate that way of earning but it keep in mind, 9.9 out of 10 of these things are all bullshit!!
Always wonder this, if it's easy, quick and makes a lot of money then why the hell are they selling it? If I found an easy, quick method that makes me tons of money wouldn't I then scale it like crazy creating as little competition as possible.
Now don't take me wrong, there some good eBooks out there but there are more shitty ones so don't fall for them if they seem too good to be true because they are just time wasters.
Actually I have had an idea for an eBook myself for a while now which I'm certain will make people money but it takes quite some time to setup and succeed maybe I will create a little poll to see if people would be interested in that.
Stop procrastinating and start doing!!
Yeah, also a big issue, START ALREADY!!!
Really, it doesn't have to be perfect from the start but at least do something, make a fb page, start a website, anything but just take ACTION!!
It's normal to have doubts, being insecure etc but if you don't take action those emotions will control you and most likely you will never make a start and you have just wasted time and often will think "What if.." so it's ok to feel those emotions but don't get caught up with it.
In my other thread I gave several options to what you can do within the IM spectrum but I still get people asking me for advice of what to do.
It's really hard to give advice about that because everybody is different and like doing different things so I can tell you only what I'm doing most of the time now.
Like the rest I was a newb too and made all the mistakes I wrote above and then some.
Although I never bought any of these quick money eBooks or wait I think I felt one time for it and paid $10 years ago because I was curious but that was the only time, I've read many of them so I know almost all of them are BS.
I also tried tons of things in the beginning looking for something quick and I kinda failed in most of them because I simply didn't have the patience as everything is/was pretty much heavily saturated so for me it wasn't worth the time spend/ROI ratio.
Tried the porn Re-upload method using @sodevrom bot and although the bot is a really nice addition finding the right videos, editing em and uploading then is really time consuming and very tedious which combined with my ADD just didn't work out for me. Plus it's kinda distracting if you know what I mean :p
Did some CPA locking with gamehacks which made me some money but again dealing with banned SM accounts, it was just not my thing.
Made some starter money with letting people do surveys of which I might write a quick method with a twist about.
But yeah, as you can see I tried, failed and researched several things which let me to what I'm doing now most of the time which is setting up my own agency that does webdesign, SEO, SEA and Social Media Management and still creating some niche websites.
Those are all long term things which take a lot of time to setup especially if you are a perfectionist like me but it's something I enjoy very much and which I will be scaling this and coming years.
So my advice would be to go with one of these I do or all whatever rocks your boat.
You would be surprised how many sites and companies are out there locally that have absolute shit SEO and the only reason they ranking on page one is pure luck or because other companies have even more shitty SEO. And as it's in your own language it should be easier for you.
Once you get results for clients there is a big chance that they would like you to do their marketing too so SEA, FBA etc.
There are tons of courses and videos all over the internet that teach you SEO and running an agency, again, it takes some time to watch, learn and then get the clients but for me it's absolutely worth it and once you have the knowledge you don't need so many tools really.
KWfinder, Ahrefs is pretty much all you need and Ahrefs you can use their $7 trial when you get a client and use the shit out of it till you can pay the monthly subscription.
So that's about it for this post I hope some of it was useful for you and will help you to become a better marketer.
Like my other thread I will leave you with a motivational video, this one is a bit longer as it's an collection of speeches but it's pretty awesome!
Don't give up, you can 100% become successful too!! You just need to take action and set your mind to it.
If you have questions, drop a reply and I'll get to it eventually.
Quitting social media is key. I always had the apps on my phone thinking "oh I can't delete them I need them for business" but always ended up scrolling through the apps mindlessly.
I deleted them all and usually just set up everything on my computer. If I really need the app I'll just download it do what I need to do and then delete it.
Like you said they're meant to keep you on as long as possible to earn them more money

I love your threads! Thanks for another awesome read, definitely going to implement some stuff as I am researching this topic myself.
Formatting could have been a bit better (you know the good old green font, size 6, bolded stuff)
Besides for that, this thread is epic. Certainly worthy of another sticky!
Good to see you’re back. And with a long ass post full of sound advice to boot. Good job!
RDR 2. Have my eye on that one too, but for the exact same reason you mention Rockstar hasn’t converted me as a customer yet.
And as a reminder: 2018 wasn’t only the trip to MisterF, but Jr. Exec. also. Can’t imagine what would have happened if you weren’t waisted on W&W that year.
Good luck with setting up your agency and I know you will kill it in that space.
G-d knows there’s still a lot of room for improvement where we are from, especially in the mid segment of the market.
Actually, the best thing that I have read from a long time. I was looking for something similar, bookmarked to read it another time later.
BTW, sometimes we know that long term projects will make our future better. But, something in my head say go work in this small things that will bring you few bucks in short term, just don't think about next year ...
And this leads to procrastination...
How would you deal with such situation?

Yeah probably, I often forget that as I run the white theme of BHW since the beginning.

TYVM sir. I'm looking forward to RDR2 so bad, I have delayed it but there are certain games I MUST play, usually a new GTA, RDR series or almost everything rockstar releases God of War games

I feel you man. I still don't look to far in the future but this has to do as a majority of my adulthood was about homelessness and addiction, seen so much that I live by the day but when it comes to work, yeah setting things up and learning the skills is taking long but after that I only need to get some results for a few clients and then I'm guaranteed of a steady income which I can pretty much do anywhere in the world.
It's hard to tell how I deal exactly with it, I'm getting older and as I already wasted 15 years I really have to urge to set up something that can provide me with a future. All these short term things are heavily saturated where my long term stuff even though lots of competition it's far less saturated because it takes time to develop certain skills and become knowledgeable.

Thanks for the answer. I'd try to have some rest for a few days and re-think about everything.
I'd try to do more intelligent moves that I'd be proud in the future cause I did it now.. As I believe that this situation won't last much time.
Thanks Thanks x 1

Look at DTG, what they offer/promise and the actual results the SMB’s get.
The only thing these fuckers got going is their name, but the results are abominable. It should be easy for you to improve on that segment of the market.
Sorry for the off-topic.

YW man. Sounds like a plan. Can't hurt to take a break, access the situation, set out a plan and go back at it.

@Billy Batts thanks a lot for the thread.
My issue is that I want something longish term and scalable (obviously in IM, nothing is super long term) but I don’t know what type of IM to begin with. I tried affiliate marketing however I stopped that because I don’t know how to properly analyse if it worth lthe risk of wasting my money building links because I don’t know whether it’ll be able to even rank close to the the top, the search volume is 8000 a month with KWD 11. I thinking of trying CPA with MaxBounty as I’ve been approved.
Basically not sure where to really invest me money and time.
I quit Facebook a year ago and my productivity X10. I produce stuffs more than ever before!
Social media constant make you distract and procrastination.
Thanks for the thread Batts. Glad this year is turning out better for you. I used to struggle with alcohol as well. Took 3 months straight on a boat in Alaska for me to break.
Read your pinned post earlier this week. Related with you when you were talking about it being cold af, sleeping on the ground, and no one giving a shit. That's how these things go. But hey, I'd rather be born from where I was (no big footsteps to follow), coming from where I come from. Every pain and struggle makes me who I am. Builds character and perspective. No one can take that from me. I don't have a legacy that I'm scared to tarnish. Nothing to lose, no matter how far we go.
SM is definitely a time suck. Same with mental masturb.
P.S. Would love an ebook, my guy.
Holy shit @Billy Batts
I'm only commenting so I can come back and read this epic post later! Haven't got an hour to spare at the moment
@Billy Batts thanks for the quality, personal post. My biggest struggle is the absence of faster feedback loop. Here's what I mean:
When you play a game, you know the outcome relatively fast. 10 minutes, 25 minutes, or even an hour. The outcome gives you an insight of how well you did. This is great since you can measure your progress incrementally. In IM, these feedback loop is harder to find. Currently, I'm building two niche sites and wrote 20k(It's not much I know)words based on what other people have told me. I'm using Google Search Console, Google analytics, and Amazon Associates reports as my feedback loop. I have yet to get a single affiliate sale and it's hard to pinpoint why.
As a boss, how do you find your feedback loop? Is it internal? Do you regularly review your work with colleagues?
What is up people the Batts is in the house!

"Quit Social Media" - What are y'all crazzzyyyy!!!??? LOL - OK I will try it. Voted Yes for your ebook, yes please!?
