  1. 📰 📻 📺 Learn about Bias in Media, Find Better News Alternatives Here, & Educate Yourself about "Fake News" 📺 📻 📰
  2. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  3. According to Pew Research "More than eight-in-ten Americans get news from digital devices", but it never specifies what news sources they're getting them from. "About half (53%) say they get news from social media, and a much smaller portion say they get news at least sometimes from podcasts (22%). Past research done by the Center has tracked the various ways Americans get news, both online and offline."

  5. This article is a direct challenge YOU to break out of your media bubble 💭 and get your news from some different sources. Whether you are on the right or left of the political spectrum, I have tried my hardest to find news sources that will fit into your worldview. Although I believe getting sources _just_ from the right or left is overall detrimental to breaking that bubble, I sincerely hope this article will give you some much more thorough and alternative news sources that aren't sponsored by corporate or MSM (although I do have those listed in here to for the sake of brevity and sometimes they have breaking news stories you will want to watch live).
  6. So, turn off CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC & OANN! Try listening to some foreign coverage on what's going on in our world. You'd be surprised how much interest we bring to these foreign news channels. BBC, Al Jazeera, Deutsche Welle -- although they are state sponsored, you'll hear a little bit more neutral coverage of US politics than you will with the US corporate media. Plus you'll also hear information about people and places and things going on in other parts of the world than you would with US-centric news that makes up our major corporate news networks. I intentionally did not include RT (Russia Today) because it's basically Kremlin propaganda, as unfortunately, all Russian news sources are as they have been slowly taken over by the Putin regime. https://archives.cjr.org/feature/what_is_russia_today.php

  10. If you find a image on Twitter or Facebook, copy that image and do a reverse image search in Google Images https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/1325808 or http://www.tineye.com/ and see if it's a widely shared image across the web. If you only see a few results from Twitter and other platforms, more than likely it's a fraudulent image someone made up in MS Paint or Excel. Also, if you see a new clip on social media, and you've never heard of the organization that produced it, Google/Startpage/DuckDuckGo it and see what it comes back with. Often you'll find they're nothing but Russian troll networks or extreme radical sites that have a clear agenda to mislead you.

  20. ⭐ The Philip DeFranco Show (non-bias pop culture & Youtube news) https://www.youtube.com/user/sxephil - Phil claims not to have specific political affiliate (or won't admit to it), but I've seen him rip in to both R and D politicians. A lot of his news is about YouTube drama, so keep that in mind as well.
  21. ⭐ The Intercept: https://theintercept.com/ - Glenn Greenworld's Newspaper, who speaks at both socialist and libertarian conferences. His political ideology seems very mixed and and hard to pin down. But he is anti-corruption, anti-abuse of power, pro human rights, and so forth.

  34. I am intentionally not including some conservatives YouTube channels because they don't have reliable information, are propaganda, promote lies such as anti-vax trends. This includes Ben Shapiro, Milo Yiannopoulos, PragerU, Lauren Southern, and others.
  35. Unknown/Unlisted Political Affiliation, but the channels look well made and appear to have good Content

  42. ✨ You can also subscribe to my Twitter list called "Breaking News" which has all sources of news that is breaking that instant and there is no way to put a spin on it. You can access it and subscribe to it here: https://twitter.com/i/lists/68998895?s=20 🐤 (kept curated, pruned and up to date with legitimate news sources for breaking news) Unfortunately, since the Twitter CEO change, you are no longer allowed to view people's list unless you are already a Twitter member, which is unfortunate. But here is a list of the members of my "Breaking News" List so you can see for yourself I've tried to get as much center and non-biased journalism, reporting and wire services. 58. 👍 Ground News
  59. -----------
  60. There's also a great new service that is called Ground.News. See https://ground.news/about & https://ground.news/mediaopoly/our-methodology They have a great app which you can download. They sort news stories by biases, either right or left and center. I usually try and stick with the center. However, you can scroll to the right to see more right leaning news sources, and left to see left leaning sources.
  61. They also have a very cool feature called "BlindSpot" that shows you news that isn't getting as much coverage as it should. https://ground.news/blindspot
  62. They also have a new feature for Twitter called Mediopoly that rates Twitter accounts whether or not they are left or right leaning, which you can check out at: https://ground.news/mediaopoly
  63. Download their app! You won't be disappointed. It always shows breaking headlines of what's going on in the world and lets you choose how you consume your media how you want too - although I always recommend checking some of the right and left sources on a single story to see how they play it out.
  64. Android from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.checkitt&hl=en_US&gl=US
  65. Apple AppStore: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ground-news/id1324203419
  66. Enter the code 7751578 under settings to get a free month of their premium service! (Doesn't ask you for CC or any info, it just gives you the free trial and doesn't nag you _too often_)
  67. 🌍 International Media Sources 🌏
  68. ----------------------------------
  69. Below are links to some international media sources, but I included them just for the fact that some of them stream live 24/7 and if you want to hear a breaking news story, it will often be the best place to turn, depending upon what part of the world it has happened in. It's very hard to bring bias to a breaking news story. It's just about what is happening right at the moment. However, you have to keep in mind certain things when watching breaking news, here is a list:
  70. Where's RT (Russia Today)? https://archives.cjr.org/feature/what_is_russia_today.php

  73. Here are some foreign news sources that have MUCH LESS bias towards America than American media does on itself, as well as hearing news stories from around the globe to stay informed.
  74. ⭐ Al Jazeera English: https://www.youtube.com/user/AlJazeeraEnglish Al Jazeera Livefeed 24/7 English: http://www.aljazeera.com/live/ or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgJtWREOXHA -- Main homepage: https://www.aljazeera.com/

  76. ⭐ DW (Deutsche Welle) English: https://www.youtube.com/user/deutschewelleenglish DW English Livefeed 24/7: http://www.dw.com/en/media-center/live-tv/s-100825 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yt3HsaIEhM -- Main homepage: https://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/s-9097

  78. ⭐ BBC News: https://www.youtube.com/user/bbcnews -- Main homepage: https://www.bbc.com/news - This, AP News, and Ground News are the only "breaking news" apps I have on my phone as apps. They are fast, get right to the point, and tell you what you need to know. I recommend this even if you aren't from the UK
  79. ⭐ BBC News World Service Radio [Audio Only]: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldserviceradio
  80. ⭐ Associated Press (AP): https://www.youtube.com/user/AssociatedPress -- Main home page: https://apnews.com/ - Yet another app I have on my phone for breaking news stories, the other is the BBC and Ground.News.
  81. ⭐ AFP (Agence France-Presse): https://www.youtube.com/user/AFP -- Main homepage: https://www.afp.com/en/news-hub The AFP has been around since 1835 as essentially a news wire service. It is a good, quality source of information that's trustworthy and well documented.
  82. ⭐ Reuters: https://www.youtube.com/user/ReutersVideo Reuters Live Video is a great source for unbiased news with their quick news briefs of only 20 minutes on their videos page. I recommend checking out their Breaking Views news feed that changes daily and gives you a good summary of the days events. Main homepage: https://www.reuters.com/ - Another oldie but a good. Reuters has been around since 1851 and has essentially been a wire service. Their main office is in London, but they have reporters in 200 locations across the globe.
  83. ⭐ Sky News (UK) Livefeed 24/7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y60wDzZt8yg - Main Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/skynews Home page: https://news.sky.com/ - Mainly a UK based & focused news source
  84. 🇺🇸 American News Sources 🇺🇸
  85. ---------------------
  86. In no particular order, this is essentially the MSM of the US. Corporate sponsored, biased down a clear dividing line, and a clear agenda to focus on one platform or another. I am not including OANN here because I do not believe it to be a legitimate news source, but a propaganda arm the the GOP. That isn't to say it's all bad. There are many local affiliate stations that don't follow the agenda of their corporate overlords but attempt to provide legitimate news to the community or region it covers. However, some stations, especially those owned by Sinclair Media have an extreme right wing bias and use fear mongering tactics to keep you afraid and I also consider a propaganda arm of the GOP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stations_owned_or_operated_by_Sinclair_Broadcast_Group
  87. The Big 4. These are the original news outlets started in the 20th century, first broadcasting by radio and now fully livestreamed 24/7.
  88. ⭐ ABC News: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABCNews - Main homepage: https://abcnews.go.com/ More info: ABC and all it's affiliates are owned and operated by one the largest media corporations on Earth, namely Disney. "The Walt Disney Company (DIS) has one of the most incredibly rich history, which led up to its position as the world’s largest media and entertainment company. The company is one the most well-perceived and distinct brands globally with a multigenerational audience. With the vast portfolio of classic Disney content enhanced with additional content from the studios of Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar, etc., as well as the acquisition of Fox which further builds on its IP strength, the company’s exposure is wide across various markets in media, streaming, theme parks and resorts and more. Disney maintains significant streams of revenue from four segments it operates in with the Media Networks segment accounting for the largest portion at 40% of total revenues in 2020." https://seekingalpha.com/article/4450008-disney-worlds-largest-media-company-becoming-even-stronger
  89. Just because it's owned by Disney doesn't necessarily make it any less viable a news source than anyone else, but with Disney being the "one the largest media corporations on Earth" means a lot. With their immense power over a huge portfolio of other media companies, they can essentially create news stories out of whole cloth and push them through the extremely large variety of media outlets they own. I do not have any direct evidence that they have done this, but when you're talking about the largest owner of media in the world, you would think this violates some kind of monopoly anti-competition laws. However, because of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 by the FCC, they essentially threw the rulebook out the window, deregulating any and all media ownership allowing huge monopolies of terrestrial broadcast of radio, TV, and internet and although the FCC claims they review ownership of media companies ever 4 years or so, they seem to have zero compunction in allowing these huge media conglomerates to exist ad nauseum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_Act_of_1996
  90. ⭐ CBS News: https://www.youtube.com/user/CBSNewsOnline CBSN Livefeed 24/7: http://www.cbsnews.com/live/ -- Main home page: http://www.cbsnews.com/
  91. More info: CBS is one of the few major news outlets in the US that is actually owned and operated by CBS. Although they have their corporate shenanigans going on, it is generally considered a mostly reliable source for most news, as with all MSM, any non breaking news should be taken with a grain of salt.
  92. ⭐ NBC News Livestream: https://www.nbc.com/live?brand=nbc-news&callsign=nbcnews -- Main homepage: https://www.nbcnews.com/ More info: NBCNews is owned and operated by Comcast, which Wikipedia describes as "Comcast Corporation (formerly known as American Cable Systems and Comcast Holdings) is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the second-largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue (behind AT&T), the largest pay-TV company, the largest cable TV company and largest home Internet service provider in the United States, and the nation's third-largest home telephone service provider. Comcast provides services to U.S. residential and commercial customers in 40 states and in the District of Columbia. As the parent company of the international media company NBCUniversal since 2011, Comcast is a producer of feature films and television programs intended for theatrical exhibition and over-the-air and cable television broadcast, respectively." Although NBC was previously owned by General Electric (which didn't just make kitchen appliances but had major military contracts), this is no longer the case.
  93. They also operate MSNBC, the lefts answer to Fox News, which can be livestreamed here: https://www.msnbc.com/live (login to cable provide required). They do not operate a dedicated YouTube livestream. Also operated by NBCUniversal is CNBC which runs a livestream at https://www.cnbc.com/live-tv/ and again, a login to your cable provider is required to view. They do not have a dedicated YouTube livestream. Home Pages -- https://www.cnbc.com/ & https://www.msnbc.com/
  94. ⭐ CNN: If you post an article from CNN, you're more than likely going to get an "ugh" be called a shill or believer in fake news. According to a poll by the Economist & YouGov "The most politically polarizing media outlet is CNN, a cable news outfit that has been a frequent target for Donald Trump. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats (66%) rate CNN as trustworthy, compared to 11% of Republicans, a 55-point difference, larger than for any other outlet." [Interestingly enough, the most trustworthy source of new for ALL Americans is "The Weather Channel"]. According to the Media Bias Chart, CNN lands just slightly left of center, so the overwhelming disgust by the right against CNN seems to be more of a pro-Trump reaction to the news network in general. https://adfontesmedia.com/static-mbc/ However, if you find an article on CNN and want to post it on Twitter, it would be advisable to search for the headline on Google/Startpage/DDG and see if you can find another news source that has that news, as you will get a less adverse reaction from people.

  96. Some of the rest of the major news outlets in the US.
  97. ⭐ The New York Times: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheNewYorkTimes -- Main homepage: https://www.nytimes.com/ - Despite what the right might say, this is one of the most important and media outlets in the country and provide critical counter points, as well as extensive investigative journalist to uncover the facts.
  98. ⭐ Associated Press (AP): https://www.youtube.com/user/AssociatedPress -- Main homepage: https://www.apnews.com/
  99. ⭐ Fox News Livefeed 24/7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yjWDEqvkJc - Main Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/FoxNewsChannel (Fox News is obviously heavily right wing influenced & an arm of the GOP, but if you are looking for breaking news coverage on an incident that is happening right at the moment, it's an okay place to look) -- Main homepage: https://www.foxnews.com/
  100. ⭐ Bloomberg News Livefeed 24/7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga3maNZ0x0w -- Main homepage: https://www.bloomberg.com/ - Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/Quicktake -- Consider by most on the right to be a very left wing news site (which I would have to agree on) I included it here because it an American MSM News source and does have some valid stories.
  101. Not news, but still interesting - NASA International Space Station Live Feed looking down on planet Earth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzMQza8xZCc
  102. ⭐ All Live Channels on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4R8DWoMoI7CAwX8_LjQHig
  103. 📰 Google News (News Aggregates and their Competitors) 📰
  104. ---------------------------------------------------
  105. ⭐ Google News: https://news.google.com/
  106. ⭐ News360 - https://news360.com/home - News360 is a next-generation news reader that gathers news from more than 10,000 different online sources, and presents them in an innovative visual fashion, aggregating different articles and media, and letting you see all sides of a story.
  107. ⭐ CurrNews - A right wing alternative to Google News http://www.currnews.com/
  108. ⭐ NewsBlur (requires signup/login) - https://www.newsblur.com/ - Looks like a very interesting site. Describes itself as "NewsBlur is a personal news reader that brings people together to talk about the world. It shows you the original site and allows you to read stories directly off the site while keeping track of what you read. It also filters and highlights stories you like and dislike. NewsBlur has an active community of shared stories, published on each user's blurblog."
  109. ⭐ NewsAsFacts - https://newsasfacts.com/ - A very interesting project. You just get the headlines from news sources. If you're interested, you can click the link to read the full story or just scroll down and just get the bare bone headlines of what's going on. A quick and easy read to keep you up to date with the daily news. Pretty cool! 👍
  110. ⭐ Bundle - https://www.bundle.app/en/breakingNews - I'm not sure what the hosting country of this site is as there is some text in another language, perhaps from the Balkans or Czech Republic. However, this site claims to aggregate news from over 8000 sources and lists the top headlines under breaking news. Some of it is a weird combo, and they use Sputnik News a lot, which is a known Kremlin controlled state run media outlet. So, use this one with caution. It has a nice layout and some interesting stories, but don't believe everything you read on here.
  111. ⭐ Upstract - Another quick reader for the headlines from a variety of news sources. A pretty good, quick, conscience cross section of news outlets. It has a very annoying bar that goes across the entire website, however, if you are a user of uBlock Origin (which you should be) you can click on it, click on element picker, click on the bar, and the first part will disappear. Then do it again on the left over blank portion of the bar and it will be gone.: https://upstract.com/
  112. ⭐ BNO News (formerly @BreakingNews - Note: @BreakingNews on Twitter is FINALLY back, but it's run by MSNBC) http://bnonews.com/news/index.php/news/landing. You can also follow their Twitter for breaking news https://twitter.com/BNONews - I highly recommend you follow this account. It is also under my "Breaking News" Twitter list mentioned in this article.
  113. ⭐ AOL News - A news aggregate from good ole American Online. "You've got mail!" - https://www.aol.com/tag/breaking%20news/
  114. ⭐ Yahoo News - Like AOL News, nothing special here. Just a news aggregate from other sources - https://news.yahoo.com/
  115. ⭐ UPI - https://www.upi.com/ - Although the UPI used to be a major wire service in the US, competing with the likes of the AP and providing raw source material to many news and media broadcast networks, their hayday has long since past. I won't go through the history here, but the UPI operates some Twitter accounts and I have them on my breaking news Twitter list as they do provide consistent news, it is just aggregated from other sources
  116. 🕵️ Fact Checking Sites 🕵️
  117. -------------------------
  118. Because this list is so long, I've decided to add two asterisks to sites I feel are particularly worthwhile for debunking rumors and fact checking all the BS out there.
  119. Have a question if the news story you just read or the social media post from your friend is real? That's a good start to becoming a media savvy news consumer! These sites look at suspect news stories floating around the web and try and debunk the lies told by the organization or person ASAP:
  120. ⭐ PolitiFact https://www.politifact.com/ - Fact-checking journalism is the heart of PolitiFact. Our core principles are independence, transparency, fairness, thorough reporting and clear writing. The reason we publish is to give citizens the information they need to govern themselves in a democracy.
  121. ⭐ FactCheck.org https://www.factcheck.org/ - We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.
  122. ⭐ Washington Post Fact Checker [BIAS ALERT] (Might require subscription to read, scroll to the bottom to download a plugin that will allow you to read news sources hidden behind a paywall below) - https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/
  123. ⭐ Snopes https://www.snopes.com/ - When misinformation obscures the truth and readers don’t know what to trust, Snopes.com’s fact checking and original, investigative reporting lights the way to evidence-based and contextualized analysis. We always document our sources so readers are empowered to do independent research and make up their own minds. Snopes got its start in 1994, investigating urban legends, hoaxes, and folklore. Founder David Mikkelson, later joined by his wife, was publishing online before most people were connected to the internet. As demand for reliable fact checks grew, so did Snopes. Now it’s the oldest and largest fact-checking site online, widely regarded by journalists, folklorists, and readers as an invaluable research companion.
  124. ⭐ The Straight Dope https://www.straightdope.com - Fighting ignorance since 1973. (It’s taking longer than we thought.) How did the Straight Dope come to be? It all started in February, 1973, in the Chicago Reader, now a titan of alternative journalism but then … well, a skinny titan. The column appeared without fuss or fanfare. This was Cecil’s preference. He wanted to start off small and then expand. Just like the universe.
  125. ⭐ Fact Check from Duke Reporters' Lab https://reporterslab.org/fact-checking/ - The Reporters’ Lab is a center for journalism research in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University. Our core projects focus on fact-checking, but we also do occasional research about trust in the news media and other topics. [Down at the time of writing, so I can't really give it a fair assessment]

  161. 📱 A List of Wikipedia's "Alternative News Source (U.S. Political Left & Right) 📱
  162. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  163. These are the "alternative" news sources I would recommend people look at. Not sponsored by corporate advertising dollars, but instead by donations, pledge drives, some light advertisements, and so forth.
  164. ⭐ Alternative Media (Left): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_media_(U.S._political_left)
  165. ⚠️ Alternative Media (Right) - strangely enough, this doesn't have a straight forward list of US political organizations that are on the political right, but more of a discussion of all the problems with it. Take it for what it's worth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_media_(U.S._political_right)
  166. But push out of your bubble and check out some of the sources from both categories. Ground.news, as I mentioned up above is a great way to do this, but try reading some alternative media that isn't funded by corporate donations (like the MSM in the US I listed above). Be willing to go outside of your comfort zone, break some of your cognitive biases https://yourbias.is/
  167. 🚨 Right Wing Builds it's Own Echo Chamber - in an effort to combat the tech giants that dominate the general population, figures on the right (and unfortunately alt-right, far right and neo fascist) have created alternatives to the social media giants and they are attracting a large population. Sadly, this just turns into an echo chamber for the same viewpoints to be shared and reinforced without any fact checking, checking references, sources, peer reviewed studies, and so forth. So whether your political inclination is on the left or right, BREAK that echo chamber and be willing to think outside your hivemind bubble. https://www.axios.com/conservative-social-media-crypto-publishing-internet-56a77cbd-89c6-480a-a8a4-6092b7eea481.html (Axios)
  168. 📻 Other News Sources Both Domestic and International that Really Don't Fit in Any particular categories. 📻

  170. ⭐ Voice of America: https://www.voanews.com/- Worldwide broadcast of news funded by the American government
  171. ⭐ https://www.scmp.com/ - South China Morning Post. Has some articles critical of the central authority of their pseudo-communist party, but still generally stays in party lines not to get in trouble, but presents the other side of the article as well.
  172. ⭐ https://www.rferl.org/ - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty - This cold war relic still soldiers on producing news content, funded by the US
  173. ⭐ https://www.rfa.org/english/news/korea - Radio Free Asia - This is a news source mainly funded by the US to produce Anti-North Korea media for general consumption
