I think because his hair is very gray and his wife's is very blonde. In fact, if you have not got a child handy, you really ought to find one.

It was an easy choice to take this out when I saw it at the library. She appears to have a lot of well illustrated books based on popular kids songs.
  5. During the corner activities, the children play innocently, boldly, like to dance back to the lessons learned and like to reflect the work of adults. Old MacDonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O! But it is important that you set your child's play time, set a child rule and discipline. This farm animals printable is perfect for playing a guessing peek-a-book game or using while you sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm! Playing music is even better: activating many different areas in both hemispheres of the brain. The animal selection is what you would expect, but there is the unique inclusion of the farmer's wife and baby, though I personally think he looks a bit old for a baby. They want their sons and daughters to gain all English skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  6. Old MacDonald Had A Farm: old macdonald - All his animals make different sounds. Gradually grasp the pronunciation, pronunciation is more standard because of trying to sing the same singer.
  7. If you're expecting to read a picture book of the song exactly as it's sung, you won't be disappointed in this book. I was expecting something a little different, I guess, so I didn't think this book was anything special. I think because his hair is very gray and his wife's is very blonde. It made me think of Hugh Hefner. I was expecting something a little different, I guess, so I didn't think this book was anything special. I think because his hair is very gray and his wife's is very blonde. It made me think of Hugh Hefner. The illustrations in this take on the familiar children's song are warm and cartoonish. But it is also a little weird about the old farmer and his very young looking wife. Not to mention the overly long version of the song, where they have inserted at least twenty more E-I-E-I-O's into the singing of the song. Review: The children already know the words to this song, so this book helps with site words. The pictures are really cute, and it serves a good purpose. It goes through all the farm old macdonald had a farm and the farmers wife and makes the animal sounds that those animals would make. Using thick black lines and bright colors to enhance her illustrations, she shows a farmer and his animals interacting on every exuberant double-page spread. Preschoolers will enjoy pointing out the barnyard creatures among them, a horse, a cow, a goat, hens, sheep, pigs, and ducks and chanting the sounds that the animals make. Even libraries that already have lots of versions of this song will want this one, especially since Cabrera frames the rhyme with a sweet surprise that fits right in with the story and the audience. The text itself is traditional, with a few new to me verses, including one about Old Macdonald s wife with a kiss kiss here and even one about his otherwise unheard of baby. Other than these few alterations, the adaptation sticks to tradition and is focused more upon the illustrations than the story itself. The illustrations are bright, textured acrylic paintings, and though these might not be enough to enthrall the jaded adult who is immune to the story of Old MacDonald, a child reader would likely be attracted to the colorful and simple pictures. This is a worthy illustrated adaptation of a timeless children s nursery rhyme, though it has nothing earth-shakingly new to offer. Response to Two Professional Reviews: I agree with the reviews that for the most part this sticks to the traditional nursery rhyme of Old Macdonald. However similar to both reviews I absolutely love the illustrations that are throughout the book and make it seem more interesting and attention grabbing. Evaluation of Literary Elements: I think that the book is extremely approachable for younger readers. The easy to read words along with the animal sounds located right next to the illustration of that animal make connections easy for readers. The illustrations are bright and easy for an young reader to enjoy. Consideration of Instructional Application: For this book I would first have the children sing along with me as I read it. Then I would print out color sheets of all the animals that are in the book. I would allow the children to color them as they please and then as a class we would go through all of the animals they colored in and label them with the sounds that they make based off of the book. I keep coming across Jane Cabrera and have decided I like her. She appears to have a lot of well illustrated books based on popular kids songs. May be a bit long, but in my experience all titles of this particular song tend to be lengthy due to the extent of the animals living on a farm. Just skip a page or two if there is need to zip things along. If you're doing story times for pre-school age children, you're sure to love all of Cabrera's picture book renditions of familiar songs. This version of the song begins with a wife kiss, kiss and ends with a baby waa, waa. We concluded the story by shushing with our finger to our lips to quiet the group for the next story. Jane Cabrera's bouncy, eye-catching version of this classic nursery rhyme is a sure preschool crowd pleaser. Old MacDonald had a farm old macdonald had a farm an adorable cow, some precious pigs, cute little lambs and a whole barnyard of irresistibly cute animals. By the end of the story he has the most precious animal of all, a very tiny and very young MacDonald I love love this version of the nursery rhyme. Not my favorite picture book version of this nursery rhyme classic. In this version readers also meet Old MacDonald's wife and baby. I was a little weirded out by the inclusion of the baby, maybe it's a grandchild. My biggest problem with the painted illustrations was the fact that Old MacDonald didn't look very old. He had some crows feet about his eyes, but that's about it. Picky stuff on mjy part, but it's still a recommendable version, great for preschoolers.
