  1. e Plain the Effects of Indulgence
  2. It must be kept before the people that the right balance of the
  3. mental and moral powers depends in a great degree on the right
  4. conditions of the physical system. All narcotics and unnatural stimulants
  5. that enfeeble and degrade the physical nature tend to lower the
  6. tone of the intellect and morals. Intemperance lies at the foundation
  7. [39] of the moral depravity of the world. By the indulgence of perverted
  8. appetite, man loses his power to resist temptation.
  9. Temperance reformers have a work to do in educating the people
  10. in these lines. Teach them that health, character, and even life, are
  11. endangered by the use of stimulants, which excite the exhausted
  12. energies to unnatural, spasmodic action.—The Ministry of Healing,
  13. 335.
  14. Many May Be Saved From Degradation
  15. I have been shown that the medical missionary work will discover,
  16. in the very depths of degradation, men who once possessed
  17. fine minds, richest qualifications, who will be rescued by proper
  18. labor from their fallen condition. It is the truth as it is in Jesus that is
  19. to be brought before human minds after they have been sympathetically
  20. cared for and their physical necessities met. The Holy Spirit is
  21. working and co-operating with the human agencies that are laboring
  22. for such souls, and some will appreciate the foundation upon a rock
  23. for their religious faith.
  24. There is to be no startling communication of strange doctrine to
  25. these subjects whom God loves and pities; but as they are helped
  26. physically by the medical missionary workers, the Holy Spirit cooperates
  27. with the minister of human agencies, to arouse the moral
  28. powers. The mental powers are awakened into activity
