The best sushi in town. Few of the dishes will definitely change your view about sushi if you've never really been a fan of the umami taste. The chef is extremely creative with all the ingredients, combining various ingredients and cooking techniques to create a completely unexpectedly pleasant taste. Almost challenging your taste buds at the same time. Sashimi dishes here are extremely fresh. The toro and kobe beef are fresh from Japan, they are definitely one of the must-try's on the book. My absolute favorites are the soft shell crabs. I still have yet to find a place that makes them half as good as Yumi in the States. Has the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and is extremely favorful without overpowering the natural seafood taste. The toro here are an absolute. They cut it in a way that completely melts in your mouth. The pork buns were also great as the porks were cooked for a long time, which extracts a the fats from the meat. But they were extremely tender and not dried at all. The ingredients are fresh and some of bellies yumi yumi rolls are created with a unique combination of ingredients. I like that the names of bellies yumi yumi of the rolls play homage to the local area Sea Bright, Sandy Hook, Ocean Ave and Rumson Roll. The seaweed salad was good with a generous serving; enough to easily feed 2. The prices on some of the items are a little higher than I've seen for their equivalents at other restaurants. But, Yumi does offer the option to eat sushi on the shore in Sea Bright. It was a nice night so we opted to sit outside. Service was quick and attentive, the waitress was fun and playful. She brought us an ice bucket for bellies yumi yumi wine. We were waiting on a fourth member of our party so we weren't in a rush to order entrees. We ordered edamame and tuna pizza to hold us over. The edamame was good, served with a lime. The tuna pizza was delicious, the pancake was crispy, the tuna was bellies yumi yumi. When the fourth party member finally arrived, we had a hard time tracking down the waitress. I understand we told her we were waiting, but at a certain point it was like we were forgotten. We ordered 3 rolls, the sandy hook, the ocean ave, and the lobster roll. We got one roll brought out, then the other two took some time to come out. Not sure why we were served that way but. They were all very fresh, not overly stuffed with rice, and just overall delicious. Again, in my opinion they were overpriced. We had a hard time getting the waitress when we tried to pay the bill. But overall, it was an ok experience. I'd probably give it 3. The food quality is great, so I guess that gives it a half a star, and bellies yumi yumi up for the negatives. They actually do Japanese cuisine the way it's suppose to be done with an American twist. Bringing fresh sea urchin, wagyu, toro, and other delicacies to the table. Definitely stop by and splurge a bit, ask the sushi chefs for some recommendations. The menu is creative and the specials are fresh and interesting every time we go. I can't say enough great things about the entire menu and the attentive staff. Standout items include the trio tar tar and pork belly appetizers. Years ago, I tried to recreate Yumi's pork belly. I braised it for 10 or 12 hours just as they do and made a Japanese yam purée. It paled in comparison to theirs. This place is the real deal. Although not inexpensive, we had an Omakase dinner served by Chef Sean, bellies yumi yumi sitting at the Sushi Bar. It was a delicious and authentic dinner experience which included Kobe beef cooked on hot stones, excellent Toro and many other creative and beautifully prepared dishes. Everyone here from the hostess to our waitress, Monique and Chef Sean himself made us feel welcomed and like regulars. We will definitely be back. We had not been back to Yumi for a long time before tonight. I have not had such a good meal in years. We decided to share everything. We were brought some pickled veggies which were perfectly flavored. Soon our first order came out: a Sea Bright sushi roll which was fantastic, with delicate flavors and wonderful consistency. A side of Japanese mayo in 5 small dollops accompanied the roll. Next we had the catch of the day which was halibut. It was the most delicious halibut I have ever tasted, sitting in a very light sauce. Our main entree took a little while longer but was worth the wait: pan seated sea scallops over Japanese risotto with small slices of shitake mushroom. The scallops were extremely tender and had a slight taste of sea salt that did not overpower the dish. Lastly, my wife enjoyed a fresh cup of Lavazza decaf while I opted for a cappuccino. Both were a great way to end a terrific meal. We were so full we did not order dessert a rare occurrence. I should also mention the very attentive service and frequent questions as to how we liked each course. We will not wait so long to return to Yumi. Update: Had dinner with friends on Bellies yumi yumi 28, 2018. We shared a lot of small hot plates. My wife and I also shared the Ocean Ave. We had a great evening. I'm a bit of a sushi snob, and recently moved away from my 1 go to spot Sushi By Kazu. I've been traveling to it once per week for amazing sushi, but figured I should give a local spot near me a chance. We ordered bento boxes for lunch- the contents were pretty good. I'd say it's certainly a great value for what you're getting. Their Gyoza is good, but I've had better. You then pick your main- so I got a spicy tuna roll and my friend did the beef teriyaki. Beef teriyaki was cooked perfectly and very tasty. We also started with a roll that had king crab and spicy tuna in it. The sushi- Not good and 100% not worth going back for. The roll that allegedly had king crab on it tasted very fishy, and I almost cut my mouth on a large crab shell. It was a great idea. However, I didn't love it as much as I thought I would have. I also was disappointed that it came with Chocolate Ice cream. That is not mentioned on the menu, or I would have asked for vanilla. This simply isn't worth it. Have to admit never thought I find a great nj restaurant at the jersey shore. Unlike dozens of jersey shore food this place has is in its own class. If you go order something bellies yumi yumi haven't tried you be surprised how good this place bellies yumi yumi make anything taste good. The decode is a little outdated and service is great but could be better but overall one of the jersey shores best. Tip go off peak as place gets very crowded and loud.
