  42. INTRODUCTION TO AFFILIATE MARKETING
  43. When it comes to going into business online, one of the
  44. easiest and most lucrative methods is through Affiliate
  45. Marketing. This is because becoming an affiliate
  46. marketer requires no experience, no website and simple
  47. promotional techniques that will convert prospective
  48. buyers into customers.
  49. For the relative newcomer, affiliate marketing offers a
  50. planned method and blueprint to begin making sales
  51. online. There are a multitude of different
  52. opportunities, niches and markets to choose from. A
  53. person can become an affiliate for just about anything
  54. from digital products to flowers and everything in
  55. between.
  56. In this e-book, we will cover the basics of affiliate
  57. marketing to give you an idea of where to start, how to
  58. get started and what websites are good to work with.
  59. We will then move into how to become a profitable
  60. affiliate in 60 days or less, becoming an affiliate
  61. insider and some advanced techniques that if applied
  62. properly will take your earnings to the next level.
  63. This e-book is not the end all in affiliate learning;
  64. instead, it is a good step-off point that will lead you
  65. to other e-books that will expand your horizons and
  66. earnings.
  67. By the time you finish reading this e-book, you will be
  68. able to implement a concrete plan that will get you
  69. into earning money quickly and easily.
  70. These techniques have worked for a long time, and they
  71. work consistently to earn money from affiliate
  72. marketing if followed.
  73. If you are already familiar with affiliate marketing,
  74. this e-book will give you new techniques to add to your
  75. marketing arsenal so that you can increase your
  76. affiliate earnings and expand on the methods that you
  77. use in order to be successful.
  78. So, without further ado, let’s get started on our
  79. journey to affiliate profitability!
  80. Basics of Affiliate Marketing
  81. The concept of affiliate marketing is a variation on
  82. the outside sales position except that it all happens
  83. in cyber-space, and there is no door-to-door component.
  84. Think of yourself as the salesman, one of many, for a
  85. specific product or service and you’ve mastered the
  86. basics of what is an affiliate.
  87. People have all kinds of products and services that
  88. they want to sell online.
  89. Part of the process to become successful is to have a
  90. large amount of traffic that is interested in what you
  91. have to offer. The way you can accomplish this is by
  92. having salesman or affiliate promote your products.
  93. When a sale is made, you share the earnings with your
  94. affiliate/salesman through commissions.
  95. Successful affiliates make a good living by promoting
  96. products and services of other vendors in order to make
  97. that commission.
  98. For the purposes of this e-book, I will focus on one of
  99. the easiest affiliate networks to get started –
  100. Clickbank and list the others with a brief look at the
  101. larger networks. Once you learn how an affiliate
  102. network like Clickbank works, you will be able to
  103. expand that to other larger networks that have a myriad
  104. of different products and services that are
  105. commissionable.
  106. Clickbank is one of the largest, oldest affiliate
  107. networks out there online. Clickbank sells only digital
  108. products, is extremely easy to learn how to use and has
  109. a ton of vendors just waiting to snap up a good
  110. affiliate.
  111. There is no waiting time to become a part of the
  112. Clickbank affiliate family, and the commissions are
  113. much higher than the other networks, with some
  114. commissions going as high as 75%.
  115. Clickbank is an affiliate network in that it is a whole
  116. bunch of vendors and affiliates all working under the
  117. umbrella organization called Clickbank.
  118. Through Clickbank, products and services are bought and
  119. sold, accounting goes on within the network and
  120. commissions are calculated per product sold. Before we
  121. go any further, let’s look at what you can potentially
  122. earn from one product.
  123. For example: You promote and sell on Clickbank product
  124. called Maverick Money Makers: Get Paid For Life!. It
  125. sounds like a pretty exciting product, right?
  126. Well, it has the highest payout of any Top 10 Clickbank
  127. Product and is the Top Converting product offer online.
  128. It pays out at a 50% commission level.
  129. When you look at it’s pitch page, it is endorsed by
  130. some pretty heavy weight people including CNBC, As Seen
  131. On TV, Small Business Opportunities, Fox News, CBS News
  132. and Readers Digest.
  133. As an affiliate, you will earn 50% of the $97 dollar
  134. price tag, and it’s repaid on a monthly basis.
  135. So, that means that for every person who signs up
  136. through your affiliate link (which we will get in a
  137. minute), you will be paid $44 each month as long as
  138. that person stays signed up.
  139. What do you think if you simply stuck with this
  140. affiliate program and reached their magical 100
  141. referral mark. That’s $4400 per month for promoting
  142. only one product.
  143. Are you beginning to see how lucrative affiliate
  144. marketing can be?
  145. Think about how much you could make if you found 10
  146. affiliate programs like this one? This is not only
  147. possible, but not that hard to accomplish if you know
  148. how.
  149. Look on Clickbank and find 10 things that you think you
  150. might want to sell.
  151. Make a list because as you learn more, you may want to
  152. revise it, and you may find that your choices are
  153. golden.
  154. Affiliate Marketing 101 – The Basics
  155. Since you are reading this e-book, I will assume that
  156. you are interested in making your fortune. Before you
  157. can even contemplate picking an affiliate program to
  158. join, you will need to make some basic changes in your
  159. thinking.
  160. Change the way you think about money.
  161. You’ve got to really change the way you view money and
  162. you want to begin to feel like you deserve to be
  163. wealthy. While this concept seems simple, many people
  164. don’t feel like they deserve money.
  165. As a result, their activities reflect their feelings of
  166. lack of worthiness. Instead of coming home from work
  167. and hitting the computer, reading an ebook, taking
  168. action on a plan, they will instead come home, sit in
  169. front of the television and time will pass.
  170. Instead of becoming a veteran internet marketer, they
  171. will become the master of television watching.
  172. People who feel like they should be able to make lots
  173. of money online will naturally make a lot of money
  174. online. This is not some spiritual mish-mosh, although
  175. I feel that spirituality is a part of everyone’s
  176. journey. However, that is not what I’m talking about
  177. when I say people can make lots of money.
  178. The most important thing to remember is that if you
  179. feel like you deserve lots of money, you will take the
  180. actions to make it happen.
  181. It takes some basic things to be successful at
  182. affiliate marketing:
  183. Stay focused
  184. Pick a niche product to start with and then START
  185. Read this e-book and then take action.
  186. Make a schedule and then stick to it.
  187. Start small and apply what you learn as you go.
  188. Avoid being overwhelmed out of the gate. You want to
  189. learn, apply it on a small level and then scale up when
  190. you feel you have the basics under control.
  191. While you are doing this, you will start to make money.
  192. By staying focused, I mean avoid the multi-tab
  193. distractions. You can open a ton of websites in
  194. browser’s nowadays.
  195. If your plan calls for answering email between a
  196. certain time and certain time, avoid reading emails
  197. before that time. Tell yourself, it will still be
  198. sitting there waiting for you at.
  199. The ClickBank Marketplace 101
  200. Clickbank has been in business since 1998, and has
  201. built their network to one of the largest retailer of
  202. digital products. With over 10,000 digital products, it
  203. is one of the premier affiliate networks.
  204. It is easy to use, easy to join and there are products
  205. in a ton of different areas from pets to electronics.
  206. In order to earn commissions, all you need to do is
  207. take your affiliate ID and you get a link which you can
  208. use to send customers to. When they click on your link,
  209. it will record your commissions when they buy the
  210. product.
  211. These affiliate networks generally require that you
  212. have a website that is related to the affiliate program
  213. you want to sell.
  214. However, that’s not impossible to accomplish, and you
  215. can get one at www.blogger.com, www.typepad.com,
  216. www.wordpress.com and the like.
  217. You can also sign up with very reasonable hosting
  218. services that provide one click installation of your
  219. blog site where you can start posting articles and blog
  220. posts related to the product or service you apply for
  221. at one of the larger networks like the ones listed
  222. below:
  223. Clickbank is a Fast Start, Needs no website and pretty
  224. easy to be accepted into this program.
  225. www.clickbank.com
  226. Need to have a website, makes sure that it’s
  227. established with an About Us, Contact Us and Privacy
  228. page on the site. Should have a few weeks of posts at
  229. the very least.
  230. www.shareasale.com
  231. www.cj.com
  232. www.linkshare.com
  233. www.amazon.com
  234. www.ebaypartnernetwork.com
  235. www.pepperjamnetwork.com
  236. www.datafeedr.com
  237. www.goldenCAN.com
  238. www.rubiconproject.com
  239. Wait at least 90 days before putting Adsense on your
  240. site. To ensure that you will be accepted to the
  241. Adsense program, it’s best not to apply until you have
  242. an established site to show them.
  243. www.adsense.com
  244. These two are secondary and shouldn’t be considered
  245. until you’ve got your sites up and running for a few
  246. months.
  247. www.azoogleads.com – CPA network
  248. www.cpaempire.com
  249. Before you apply to any of the other sites, you need to
  250. have a real site. You will want to blog on the site for
  251. at least two weeks, one blog post per day.
  252. If you aren’t a writer, you will need to hire a
  253. freelancer. Go to Elance.com, rentacoder.com and the
  254. like to find a writer. You can hire a freelancer fairly
  255. inexpensively who will deliver you blog posts to add to
  256. your site.
  257. Researching Your Products
  258. Pick a niche product and start to research if it’s a
  259. viable topic or subject. Whether you want to go with
  260. Clickbank products or with other affiliate products,
  261. you will need to do your research.
  262. Finding a profitable niche should be the very first
  263. thing you do when starting in affiliate marketing.
  264. You want to have a product that is Hot! If you find a
  265. product that isn’t very hot, don’t expect to make any
  266. kind of money with it.
  267. The reason I picked the Maverick Money Makers is
  268. because it is a hot item. People are interested in the
  269. niche, and it’s marketed well, presented in a
  270. professional manner, and has tools for its affiliates
  271. to use to make money.
  272. To find out what are people looking to buy:
  273. Amazon Best Sellers – Amazon.com
  274. Pulse.ebay.com
  275. Terapeak.com
  276. Amazon.com Bestsellers
  277. Amazon gives you a quick and easy way to find out
  278. what’s hot and what’s not on their site. It is a clear
  279. indicator of what the buying market is looking for,
  280. making it very easy for your to put yourself in the
  281. path of oncoming web traffic and make sales.
  282. If you sign up with Amazon’s affiliate program, you can
  283. sell all of the products on the site, and with the
  284. Bestsellers section, you will know for sure that
  285. certain products are selling. They even give you a
  286. Top10 list for each category so that you can use that
  287. to make articles, reviews and blog posts.
  288. Ebay Pulse tool: http://pulse.eBay.com
  289. This is a great place to find out what the hot products
  290. are because if a person is typing it into eBay, they
  291. are typing it into Google and Amazon. Ebay Pulse gives
  292. you a real-time look at what people are looking to buy.
  293. You can log into eBay and do a search on the completed
  294. items. It will tell you what people are selling, how
  295. many have sold and the average price.
  296. Look for items with bids, and this is a great way to
  297. get an idea of what people are looking for.
  298. Terapeak is another great way to do things
  299. www.terapeak.com
  300. Go to Hot Research, sort of like eBay pulse. It will
  301. give you a listing of what’s hot on eBay. You can then
  302. drill down and it will give you an idea of some of the
  303. different auctions that are going on. If there are
  304. bids, this is a good item to become an affiliate for.
  305. Hot Research > Hot Searches and then Search
  306. Good average price above $30.00, with a good commission
  307. rate of no less than 40%, the higher the better. Also,
  308. don’t go for the very high end products that are priced
  309. at above $125 dollars.
  310. Newbie to Profitable Affiliate
  311. Build Up To About 10 Products To Promote
  312. As an affiliate, you will want to build up to about 10
  313. products, so that you can mix up the top performing
  314. products and add the latest releases. While you should
  315. like what you’re selling, don’t be wed to it.
  316. What may be a hot seller, may cool off and if you
  317. follow trends, you need to be able to move on. You
  318. don’t want to add all these products at once, and build
  319. slowly as you get more experienced.
  320. Because you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with
  321. products, pick your products carefully. Choose popular
  322. products because you want to have top performing
  323. products.
  324. Here are some things to remember when you are selecting
  325. products.
  326. When you search for new products to promote from
  327. Clickbank, there are certain things that you are
  328. looking for.
  329. First and easiest is the selection of the category that
  330. you want to work with. For instance, each affiliate
  331. products has some information that will help you make a
  332. good decision.
  333. The three sites you will want to use to ascertain if a
  334. product is a good seller and a possible product you
  335. will want to promote includes:
  336.  Clickbank Marketplace – www.clickbank.com
  337.  CB Trends – www.cbtrends.com
  338.  CB Engine – www.cbengine.com
  339. Clickbank Marketplace
  340. 1. Sale Price: ($/Sale) This is the amount that
  341. affiliates are earning for referring customers.
  342. The amount earned is kept by Clickbank accounting
  343. and pays out every two weeks to the affiliate.
  344. 2. Percentage of Sale: (%/Sale) This is the average
  345. percentage commissions earned per affiliate per
  346. sale.
  347. 3. Referral %: This is the percentage of sales that
  348. people you refer
  349. 4. Gravity of Product: The gravity number is
  350. important because it shows the popularity of the
  351. product over time. Every time the product is sold
  352. or a new affiliate joins and uses the link the
  353. gravity of the program will change.
  354. CB Trends
  355. The popularity, price and commission paid of the
  356. product is very important.
  357. When it comes to popularity or gravity, unless you are
  358. already a Super Affiliate avoid the products with very
  359. high gravity (125+), because it means that the market
  360. will be highly competitive and the chances of you
  361. making sales will be decreased accordingly.
  362. This applies only to Clickbank and not the other
  363. commission driven organizations.
  364. In order to find out if a product is good to add to
  365. your affiliate arsenal, you will want to check it out
  366. at CB Trends (www.cbtrends.com) which is a free service
  367. that shows visual representation of what is on the
  368. Clickbank marketplace site making it easier to
  369. understand.
  370. There are some useful tracking tools that give you an
  371. easy way to see what is happening with the products you
  372. choose including:
  373.  Popularity of the product
  374.  Earning per sale
  375.  Percent per sale
  376.  Gravity
  377.  Referrals
  378.  Commission
  379. If you take the visual representation, combine it with
  380. what you see on Clickbank’s Marketplace, you will have
  381. a good idea of whether the product you’re thinking
  382. about promoting is a good one.
  383. Out of the 10 products that you pick to promote over
  384. time, you will want at least 6 of them to be popular.
  385. You want to mix it up so that at least half of what
  386. you’re promoting is more competitive. The rest of the
  387. products should be up and comers, those products that
  388. are newer and building in the Marketplace.
  389. CB Engine
  390. CB engine shows you the new products and is an
  391. excellent tool to use if you want to focus on the new
  392. product releases. If you are going to work with
  393. Clickbank, which is a good first step into the
  394. affiliate arena, CB Engine should be one of the sites
  395. you bookmark and use.
  396. It has a Brand New Products list, re-listed products
  397. with a ton of information to help you make an informed
  398. choice about the products you want to promote.
  399. Each product, new and re-listed, have graphs and visual
  400. representations about the health and viability of the
  401. products.
  402. There are a couple of ways to go about finding out more
  403. about the product or service you are about to promote.
  404. First, you can buy the product.
  405. Whether it’s digital or tangible, buying and
  406. experiencing the product will usually make you a better
  407. promoter. However, with 10 products, that can become a
  408. bit pricey, so you may want to buy a couple products
  409. that you can afford, and look over the sales pages only
  410. of the remainder.
  411. When looking over the sales or pitch page, you will
  412. want to think in terms of being a prospective buyer.
  413. Ask yourself some basic questions:
  414.  Does the page, headline and opening paragraph grab
  415. your attention.
  416.  Is the page easy to read in terms of colors,
  417. graphics and layout of the site.
  418.  Is the message being presented clear and concise
  419. and easy-to-understand.
  420.  Are there highlights of important facts, headlines
  421. to break up content and pictures that are relevant
  422. to the topic matter?
  423.  Does the page lead you to the logical conclusion
  424. where you want to buy the product?
  425. All of these things are important and will make or
  426. break you when people come through your referral link.
  427. Having a page where you want to buy the product will
  428. generally translate to high sales conversions.
  429. In that way, the traffic you drive to the product site
  430. stand a higher chance of buying in the end. If the page
  431. left you with a ho-hum, whatever feeling, it is
  432. probably quite possible that visitors arriving at the
  433. site will have the same reaction.
  434. As you go about promoting your affiliate products, make
  435. sure that you keep track of the products that are
  436. converting well, and the ones that are not. When you
  437. have a hot product that goes warm and then cold, you
  438. need to be ready to get rid of it.
  439. Earlier I told you not to get attached to a product or
  440. service. This is why. You have to know when to get rid
  441. of it.
  442. Look at the choices you first made on Clickbank and ask
  443. yourself the questions from above. Are there any
  444. products that you might want to get rid of now?
  445. Getting Traffic To Your Site
  446. Video Promotion
  447. While most people will tell you to use pay-per-click
  448. advertising, article marketing and building a website,
  449. here’s a shortcut method to get your started and
  450. quickly. Videos can get you into search engines fast.
  451. Use one of these tools to get started:
  452.  Camtasia Studio has a 30 day free trial
  453.  CamStudio which is free and located at
  454. http://camstudio.org
  455.  Jing that works on the Mac or PC
  456.  Web Cam
  457.  Sony Movie Studio
  458.  Movie Studio 9
  459. Now that you have a selection of products, a website or
  460. direct links to a vendor’s website, it’s time to
  461. promote. First, you will want to get into the video
  462. arena.
  463. I know you probably weren’t expecting that. But, people
  464. are video junkies, and if you want to get people
  465. engaged, you will need to go where the traffic goes.
  466. Creating videos is one sure-fire way to get traffic to
  467. your site. Creating a video is not as hard as you
  468. think. It’s easy and fun, and will get you into the
  469. Working with Camtasia can be a little daunting, but it
  470. will pay for itself in spades if you take the time to
  471. learn how to use it.
  472. If you need to go free Jing is the second easiest way
  473. to record from screen to video. If you’re good with
  474. Powerpoint, you can create a slide show, narrate it
  475. about your site and simply read from a script. These
  476. are the easiest type of video to create, and when used
  477. correctly, they are traffic bringers.
  478. Set your monitor resolution to 800x600 for recording.
  479. Record your videos at 800 x 600, resized to 480 x 360
  480. with SmartFocus. You want them to be quick, and talk
  481. about the product you are promoting.
  482. The bottom third is very important in videos. You want
  483. to tell them about your domain name or the domain of
  484. the affiliate site. If you don’t have a site of your
  485. own, go to SnipUrl where you can put in your affiliate
  486. link, and it will give you an output.
  487. For instance, if your affiliate product is for Maverick
  488. Money Makers, and your affiliate link is
  489. http://XXXXX.PUBLISHER.hop.clickbank.net, your SnipUrl
  490. will be www.snipurl/MaverickMoney.
  491. The SnipURL can go in the lower left part of your
  492. video, and remain there for the duration. As you talk
  493. about your website, all you need to do is use SnagIt to
  494. capture pictures, which you put in your Powerpoint
  495. presentation and capture as video.
  496. Add a couple of transitions, and you are in the video
  497. arena. These short video reviews are what you upload to
  498. all of the video sites.
  499. Things to remember:
  500.  Make sure that the name of the video is your
  501. longtail keyphrase or product name plus a word
  502. like deals. (ie. Salmon deals, Rolex watch deals)
  503.  Make sure that the keywords and keyphrases are
  504. submitted and enclosed in quotes as well as
  505. without quotes.
  506.  Make sure that you submit them with the URL
  507. leading back to your website
  508.  In the information section, be sure and put your
  509. website, or SnipURL if you don’t have a website
  510. that leads back to the affiliate product.
  511. Pay-Per-Click Advertising
  512. If you don’t have a website, landing page or place to
  513. send prospective traffic, pay per click or PPC
  514. advertising is an excellent method to drive sales via
  515. your affiliate link.
  516. Again, you will want to use discretion so that you
  517. don’t wind up losing more money than you gain in sales.
  518. The largest PPC outfit is Google. Those little
  519. advertisements that you see on people’s websites, plus
  520. on the side of the search results are called PPC
  521. advertising.
  522. Advertisers pay a set amount per click in order to
  523. appear on sites. It is considered contextual
  524. advertising, because the advertising is related to the
  525. information being presented either in the search
  526. results or on the website. For instance, you won’t get
  527. an advertisement for ice cream on a site about auto
  528. parts.
  529. Adwords & Contextual Advertising
  530. Advertising with Google is easy and deceptive to
  531. newcomers. Easy, in the fact that it is very easy to
  532. use; deceptive because if you aren’t very careful you
  533. could lose a lot of money trying to get advertising
  534. that makes you money.
  535. Here are some techniques so that you can use the
  536. Adwords system and make money.
  537. The site is located at: http://adwords.google.com
  538. You can sign up for an Adwords account by clicking the
  539. Start Now button and filling in your information. Sign
  540. up for a standard and not a starter account. Adwords
  541. is pretty easy to use. Many people will want to start
  542. out with 100s of keywords and will take everything
  543. suggested by Adwords keyword tool.
  544. Avoid this method and stick with a few terms that are
  545. laser-focused on your product or service.
  546. Use the Adwords keyword suggestion tool or other
  547. keyword tool like MicroNiche Finder, Nichebot and
  548. Keyword Elite to find about five or six terms that are
  549. tightly related to your product.
  550. You will want these keywords/keyphrases to be low
  551. competition, high traffic words. The software just
  552. mentioned are designed to find keywords like this for
  553. your product.
  554. You will want to drill down on your keywords. For
  555. instance, if your product is about dog health, don’t
  556. just look at the keywords “dog health” and dogs.
  557. Look for things like “relief for dogs from fleas”,
  558. “best dog food” or go into a specific breed like
  559. “cocker spaniel health”, or “best dog food for
  560. beagles”.
  561. While you will get fewer visitors based on these
  562. keywords, the ones that will arrive will be very
  563. interested in your product. When you look at products,
  564. you will want to take this into consideration as well.
  565. List your keyphrases and base your advertisement around
  566. these keyphrases. You will ideally want to get them
  567. into the title of your advertisement as well as in the
  568. listing for Adwords to use when listing when your ad
  569. will appear in the search results and on people’s
  570. websites.
  571. Use the Adwords keyword suggestion tool here:
  572. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
  573. Select keyphrases that are relevant but not very
  574. competitive. Remember, that although you may only get
  575. 100 visits a day from a keyword, conversion rates are
  576. 1-2%, so that will usually equal a sale.
  577. This is why you don’t want to promote a product that is
  578. much cheaper than $30. If your commission is 50% to 75%
  579. of $30, that is $15.00 to $22.50 on each sale.
  580. It has been shown that affiliates will convert on
  581. average 1% to 2% per 100 visitors if they have done
  582. adequate keyword/keyphrase research.
  583. It will generally convert the same on a $30+ item as it
  584. does on a $15.00 product. The amount of money you earn
  585. will only change due to the commission level and price
  586. of product.
  587. Ad Variations
  588. When you have your keywords in hand, go to Google and
  589. search on those keywords. Put the keywords between
  590. quotation marks and watch what comes up on the right
  591. hand side. This will give you great ideas on how to
  592. word your own advertisement.
  593. Look at what ad is in the top spot 3 spots. Look at the
  594. titles they are using and see how you can word your
  595. advertisement similarly so that you get good
  596. clickthroughs.
  597. Then when you put together your initial ad, make some
  598. variations and track how many clicks each ad is
  599. getting. Keep the ad that performs the best.
  600. When you are just starting out with Adwords, keep your
  601. bids low. Bid as little as $0.05 cents per click where
  602. you can, and just make sure that you get on page one of
  603. the search results.
  604. Look towards doing advertising on websites only and
  605. forego the search results, because it is counted in
  606. 1000 impressions at a price and your money can go a
  607. longer way.
  608. URL Display and URL Actual
  609. One nice thing to remember is that you can put your
  610. Clickbank ID and URL in the Destination URL section of
  611. the advertisement. In the Display URL, you place the
  612. actual website URL of the affiliate products vendor.
  613. Example:
  614. Display URL: www.maverickmoneymakers.com
  615. Destination URL:
  616. http://xxxxxx.maverick66.hop.clickbank.net/?
  617. tid=MAVERICK
  618. That word “?tid=MAVERICK” on the end of the Clickbank
  619. ID is called a traffic tracking device which allows you
  620. to track how your campaigns are going. Both Clickbank
  621. and Adwords will allow you to track your advertising
  622. campaigns so that you can make a decision about what’s
  623. working and what needs to be changed.
  624. To track within Adwords, you will need to choose a
  625. keyword that you want to track in Adwords. Click on
  626. Edit Keyword Settings. Then you have a URL that you can
  627. add a tracking ID to which in this case would be “?
  628. tid=MavAd1” for Maverick, Ad #1. You only have 8
  629. letters that you can use, so whatever you decide, it
  630. should be easy to understand and decipher.
  631. Yahoo and MSN’s Contextual Advertising
  632. While not much is said about the contextual advertising
  633. that is available through Yahoo and MSN, it does exist.
  634. As an alternative, you might want to consider
  635. advertising through them. The same rules apply, the
  636. competition is less and you may wind up spending a lot
  637. less for the same amount of advertising.
  638. In order to figure out if it’s worth the money, you can
  639. sign up for accounts with both MSN and Yahoo pretty
  640. easily and try it out. They also run a lot of specials
  641. and give away coupons worth various amounts of money
  642. just to get you to try their service.
  643. Yahoo PPC Service:
  644. http://sem.smallbusiness.yahoo.com/searchenginemarketin
  645. g/
  646. MSN Adcenter: https://adcenter.microsoft.com
  647. While these are lesser advertised, contextual
  648. advertising outlets, you can get a lot of mileage from
  649. them, and all kinds of traffic you might have missed if
  650. you focused on Google alone. Remember, being successful
  651. as an affiliate means thinking outside of the box.
  652. Facebook and Myspace Advertising
  653. Often overlooked and very good places to advertise are
  654. Facebook and Myspace. While I wouldn’t advertise the
  655. How To Make Money Online e-books, they are great places
  656. to advertise other digital products.
  657. If, for instance, one of your products is Jamorama from
  658. Clickbank, it is a “learn to play guitar online”
  659. service that is made for young people, is done totally
  660. online and would make a great Myspace advertisement.
  661. Squidoo and Hubpages
  662. If you don’t have a website and you want to have an
  663. intermediary page that gives more information and pre
  664. sells the product more, you can use either Squidoo or
  665. Hubpages. They are free to build, takes about 60
  666. seconds and requires no HTML ability to use.
  667. Tons of people build Squidoo lenses using articles that
  668. expand on the products and services that they are
  669. promoting.
  670. In this way, a person doesn’t click through your link
  671. straight to the pitch page of the vendor and only think
  672. that you are trying to sell them something.
  673. Through the use of these intermediary sites, you can
  674. add value to the product or service with a personalized
  675. set of information that is tailored to make the product
  676. more understandable.
  677. If you decide to build a Squidoo page for your
  678. affiliate product, most people will do a review of the
  679. product or write an article outlining the benefits of
  680. using/reading/listening to the product. In this way, it
  681. is more personal and less salesman-like.
  682. Web 2.0 Social Networking
  683. By using Web 2.0 social networking, you can announce
  684. and spread the word about your affiliate product.
  685. Instead of sending them directly to the vendor’s site,
  686. you can use Squidoo, Hubpages and other social
  687. networking sites like Ning and Scribd.com to Presell
  688. the product through writing articles and converting
  689. them into mini websites.
  690. Instead of advertising the vendor site, you will
  691. advertise your intermediary site and use it to list
  692. build and follow up through an autoresponder.
  693. The easy way to list build is take a picture of one of
  694. the aWeber or GetResponse forms using a program like
  695. Snagit, and upload the picture and make it a clickable
  696. link to a squeeze page.
  697. You can build a squeeze page using Weebly.com which has
  698. a drag and drop interface that makes it extremely easy
  699. to build web pages with autoresponder forms embedded in
  700. them.
  701. You then have people click, go to your landing or
  702. squeeze page and fill out the form. On the landing
  703. page, you can further outline the benefits of the
  704. product you are promoting.
  705. Building Your Affiliate Funnel
  706. While a lot of affiliate marketers can operate without
  707. setting up a website, the benefits of doing so will
  708. become immediately apparent. First, having your own
  709. website establishes your credibility on the subject,
  710. and further lends authority to the product you are
  711. promoting.
  712. While you can strictly use Adwords and other contextual
  713. advertising methods, having your own website is a way
  714. to add other income streams, organize and consolidate
  715. your affiliate product offerings and add other types of
  716. advertising and monetization schemes to your site.
  717. Setting up a website is not that difficult nor is it
  718. very expensive any more. If you decide to go with your
  719. own website, there are a few things you should know in
  720. order to get started.
  721. Get your own domain name. A domain name is a unique
  722. name that identifies your website. It transforms an IP
  723. address (100.99.103.44) to something memorable –
  724. www.yourdomain.com.
  725. Having your own domain name adds to the authority of
  726. what you’re writing, should be easy to remember and
  727. gives you a platform from which to write. Registering a
  728. domain name nowadays costs only about $8 to $10. Some
  729. of the best registrars include:
  730.  Godaddy.com
  731.  Namecheap.com
  732.  Internic.com
  733. Next, you will want to get webhosting. This is also
  734. very inexpensive. A full featured webhosting plan will
  735. cost you only about $5.00 to $10.00 per month.
  736.  Godaddy.com
  737.  Hostgator.com
  738.  Dreamhost.com
  739. Get an easy to use website platform. You don’t need to
  740. be an HTML or Dreamweaver expert to set up a really
  741. nice site.
  742. The platform of choice these days is Wordpress, which
  743. is very simple to setup by using Fantastico and Cpanel,
  744. and there are tons of very nice themes out there for
  745. you to use. Two other easy to use content systems are
  746. Drupal and Joomla.
  747. All three of these will build out a full site for you
  748. that has an admin interface that is easy to learn and
  749. use.
  750. Through the use of one of these platforms, you can
  751. accomplish a number of essential things to the success
  752. of your affiliate sales:
  753. Affiliate link cloaking: It would be nice to think that
  754. every body is honest. However, this is not the case. As
  755. a result, you need to cloak your affiliate link so that
  756. when a person clicks through your link and buys the
  757. product, the commission goes to you.
  758. Especially with an affiliate network like Clickbank, it
  759. is very important to cloak your original link with an
  760. ironclad decoy link that keeps the commission
  761. protected.
  762. It will take a link that looks like a mish-mash of
  763. letters and dots and like this:
  764. http://AFFILIATE.PUBLISHER.hop.clickbank.net and turn
  765. it into something like this:
  766. http://yourdomain.com/product.html. It makes it both
  767. easier to read and keeps your affiliate information
  768. secret and intact.
  769. Pre-selling: This affords you the opportunity to write
  770. or have written articles that are keyword optimized
  771. (which means that they are designed to rank highly in
  772. the search engines for specific words), traffic magnets
  773. that affords visitors the opportunity to learn more
  774. about a specific product and get more exposure that
  775. leads to eventual conversion. Pre-selling is an art
  776. that happens over time.
  777. Ad Tracking & Analytics: While Google Adwords offers
  778. excellent ad tracking features, having a person visit
  779. your website further refines the analytics you can look
  780. at.
  781. As a visitor explores your entire website, you are
  782. gaining valuable information about what pages they
  783. visited how long they stayed on specific pages, what
  784. links they clicked and the like. All of this
  785. information can help you refine what is on your
  786. website.
  787. For instance, say a person arrives at your home page,
  788. goes to a page on a specific product and then goes
  789. through a link on that page to another page on your
  790. site and stays there for a long time.
  791. If this happens over and over, you have just gained
  792. valuable information about what has caught people’s
  793. interest. In that way, you can offer more of the same
  794. that is on the second page so that people are likely to
  795. return and be re-exposed to you, your products and your
  796. site.
  797. Blogging About Specific Topics Related To Your
  798. Affiliate Product: With a website built on the
  799. Wordpress platform, you can set up certain programs
  800. called plug-ins that automatically optimize your
  801. website.
  802. What this means is that Google and the other search
  803. engine spiders will love to stop by your site and add
  804. pages to their search index.
  805. As you get more pages into the search engines, you will
  806. rank higher. What this means is that you will have more
  807. and more visibility and in turn more traffic will visit
  808. your site over time.
  809. Learning about keyword research and search engine
  810. optimization or SEO is one of the things that every
  811. affiliate should learn.
  812. The more you know, the better your site will become,
  813. and the better your site, the more sales you will make.
  814. Step-by-Step Checklist To Affiliate
  815. Success
  816. With everything you’ve learned to date, I’ll bet your
  817. head is swimming. Below is a plan that you can
  818. implement to get you started on the road to affiliate
  819. success and profit.
  820. Get Organized!
  821.  Pick on affiliate network (I suggest Clickbank
  822. because it’s easy). Spend a couple of hours
  823. learning the ins and outs of how it works. Look at
  824. the gravity, sale percentages and pick some
  825. products and make some affiliate links so that you
  826. are fully familiar with how the process works.
  827.  Go to CB Trends and CB Engine and make sure you
  828. understand how they can help you pick winners.
  829.  Stop by the Google Adwords tool and search for
  830. about 10 keywords for each product that you pick
  831. making sure that they are low competition, good
  832. traffic keywords and keyphrases.
  833. Keep good notes about what you are doing so that you
  834. can refer back to them later.
  835. Sign up for Pay Per Click programs
  836. Get yourself the following Pay Per Click accounts:
  837.  Adwords, Yahoo Publisher and MSN Adcenter accounts
  838.  Make a decision about whether you are going to
  839. build a website or work strictly through Pay Per
  840. Click advertising.
  841. Sign up for Clickbank
  842.  Sign up for Clickbank and get your nickname if you
  843. didn’t do that yesterday.
  844. Go through the help files at Clickbank, Adwords, etc.
  845. so that you understand basically how each program
  846. works.
  847. Video Training
  848.  Make a decision about which program you want to
  849. use to make your 1 minute videos.
  850.  Look on YouTube and search under Camtasia
  851. training. You will find a ton of videos on how to
  852. make a decent video.
  853.  Check out www.TubeMogul.com for free uploading of
  854. your videos after they’re done. If you want more
  855. options, there is a paid portion that will allow
  856. you to submit to more video sites. Also, you can
  857. consider Traffic Geyser for maximum coverage with
  858. videos, if you have some money to spend.
  859. www.trafficgeyser.com
  860. Article Marketing
  861. Article Marketing is one of the easiest ways to get
  862. steady traffic to your website. Using good
  863. keyword/keyphrase research will get you a ton of
  864. traffic as you write articles based on the results. In
  865. those article directories, you can put links back to
  866. your site and that will send traffic your way.
  867.  Never submit the same article to multiple sites
  868.  You need to change your article by at least 50%
  869. for each site. This is not as hard as you might
  870. think. Check out Unique Article Wizard located at:
  871. www.uniquearticlewizard.com on how to accomplish
  872. that.

  898. 25.articlepool.com
  899. Build Squidoo Lenses and Hubpages
  900.  Get some free pages which can act as intermediary
  901. sites which you can use to pre-sell your various
  902. products by writing articles presenting the
  903. products and writing about the features and
  904. benefits.
  905.  Build one Squidoo or Hubpage per article and
  906. product. Avoid combining stuff on pages, because
  907. you want to give a clear message about each
  908. product or service that you are promoting.
  909.  You can build more than one page per product. Look
  910. and think about the different angles you can bring
  911. to each product or service that you are promoting.
  912. For instance: list the features and benefits in
  913. general lens, then build 4 or 5 lenses on specific
  914. sub-features where you only talk about that feature.
  915. Then, from the main lens or hubpage, you can link to
  916. the sub-feature pages.
  917. Autoresponders
  918. Autoresponders are e-mail messages that are sent
  919. automatically when an e-mail arrives for a specific e
  920. mail account. The most common example of an
  921. autoresponder is the ubiquitous "Out of Office" message
  922. sent by mail programs like Outlook and Eudora.
  923. - 39
  924. Web autoresponders are used by affiliate marketers to
  925. send responses to questions when they are away from the
  926. computer.
  927. Autoresponders will answer questions, send information
  928. about a product or service. They are also key to list
  929. building which is where many affiliate marketers make
  930. backend sales by sending follow-up messages. Most web
  931. autoresponders give you unlimited autoresponse
  932. messages, and you can have multiple autoresponder
  933. addresses.

1012. number of Clickbank-ready stores that are pre-set up.
1013. You only need to pay a one time fee and the store will
1014. be activated in your name with your affiliate ID.
1015. So, instead of promoting just 10 products, you can
1016. promote the entire Clickbank host of vendors. There are
1017. ups and downs to this.
1018. Pros: All the work is done for you. There is a Featured
1019. section to these stores where you can highlight the 10
1020. products that you are actively promoting.
1021. It also gives you a quick web presence and if you don’t
1022. have website building experience, everything is done
  1023. for you.
1024. Cons: Your store look just like every other person who
1025. bought the store package. Because it is built for you,
1026. it is a standardized template, so there can be
1027. hundreds, even thousands of other stores out there that
  1028. are just like yours.
1029. Set Up A Blog on a Free Site
1030. Take a short bit of time to set up a blog on one of the
1031. free sites, or build a site and get webhosting. Which
1032. ever you decide, having a small site that is yours will
1033. go a long way towards building your credibility for the
1034. long term. Using PPC (pay per click) is fine up to a
  1035. - 44
1036. point. However, to expand and grow with products and
1037. services, having a site is essential.
  1038. Free Websites:
  1039. Wordpress: www.wordpress.com – You can get a blog
1040. started in less time than it takes you to read this
1041. sentence. All you need is an email address. You’ll get
1042. your own WordPress.com address (like
1043. you.wordpress.com), a selection of great free and
1044. customizable designs for your blog (called themes) and
1045. 3 gigabytes of file storage.
1046. There is a great deal of help and instruction to show
1047. you what to do and how to get started. Your website
1048. address would be something like
1049. http://product.wordpress.com and you can build as many
1050. of these free sites as you like.
1051. The positives of using the Wordpress.com system is that
1052. you are on a domain that has a very high page rank,
1053. lots of visitors and tons of help. Even if you’ve never
1054. set up a blog before, it’s so easy that you can get
1055. started and not feel overwhelmed.
1056. Blogger: Another free platform that is owned by Google
1057. is great to set up a blog on. Again, you will be a
  1058. subdomain like http://product.blogspot.com, but it’s
1059. free, there’s no webhosting fees involved and you can
1060. set it up without any HTML, programming or web design
1061. experience. You simply pick from one of the many themes
1062. presented, and your blog is ready to go.
  1063. - 45
1064. Having a Blogger blog gets you listed in Google (since
1065. they own it), and makes it easy to get your message out
  1066. there.
1067. Joomla: Although Joomla is free, they don’t have a free
1068. site where you can build on a subdomain. Joomla is an
1069. award-winning content management system (CMS), which
1070. enables you to build Web sites and powerful online
  1071. applications.
1072. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and
1073. extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web
1074. site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open
1075. source solution that is freely available to everyone.
1076. With that said, Joomla has a ton of online help just
1077. like Wordpress; however, you will have to get
1078. webhosting and a domain name to use it.
1079. Consider Setting Up Your Own Website
1080. Which ever platform you decide on – Wordpress or Joomla
1081. – you will need webhosting, a domain name and it will
1082. take a bit of time to get things set up.
1083. Most affiliate marketers tend to go with either Blogger
1084. or a Wordpress blog and self-hosting. Joomla is an
1085. option, but the learning curve is a little bit longer.
1086. So, if you’re looking to get going, you might want to
1087. consider either the free services or Wordpress.
1088. Once you decide on getting your own blog, select
1089. inexpensive webhosting. Remember, webhosting should
1090. have cPanel or One-Click setup attached to it.
  1091. - 46
1092. Hostgator has cPanel and Fantastico and Dreamhost has
1093. One-Click. Both perform the same function – set up of
1094. Wordpress with no knowledge of MySQL, Wordpress or FTP.
1095. This is the quickest way to get started with your blog.
1096. Once it’s set up, you will need to look at article
1097. writing. If you’re not a writer, check out the
1098. freelancers at Elance, Guru.com and Rentacoder.
1099. Getting Traffic To Your Site
1100. Write down and plan the methods you are going to use to
1101. drive traffic to your website: Pay-Per-Click, Squidoo
1102. and Hubpages, article marketing, social networking and
1103. the like. Then schedule when you will be posting to
1104. your site, and posting to social networking sites.
1105. In the end, if you follow this entire checklist and
1106. don’t give up, you will begin to see sales for the
1107. products that you are promoting.
1108. You can also add more products over time to promote,
1109. build more than one website, put up Squidoo and
1110. Hubpages highlighting your various products and
1111. services and add things like Adsense to further
  1112. monetize your site.
