  30. 0. How to Use [HOW]
  31. ========================================================================================
  32. Before we start, you might want to know how to use this guide. It's simple - use find
  33. feature of your browser that open this document (CTRL+F or COMMAND+F), enter the code
  34. of a section. For example, if you want to go to Rules section, just enter [RUL] and go
  35. to that section.
  36. ========================================================================================
  37. 1. Coinchat at a Glance [INT]
  38. ========================================================================================
  39. Welcome to Coinchat! We are a chat network and community integrated with Bitcoin. For
  40. your information, we are running on node.js platform, not IRC, so you cannot access this
  41. chatroom from any IRC client. In here, you can chat with a good community about many
  42. diverse topics, ranging from discussion about bitcoins, gaming, coding, politics, and
  43. many more.
  44. If you think of this site as an earning site, or pay-to-chat site, you are in the wrong
  45. mindset. It is true that you are getting autotips to some extent with a good, eligible
  46. line of chat, but think of it as just a bonus for a good quality chat. We have wonderful
  47. community that is really rewarding more than any number of mBTC you may gain from
  48. chatting here!
  49. Remember, don't be unintelligent in your chatting - try to use correct spelling,
  50. grammar, punctuation, and so on - and try conversing with another people, not only
  51. talking one-way to the room. It's okay if you didn't understand English, or didn't
  52. have English as your first language - there are many language-specific rooms here, like
  53. #espanol, #italy, #germanchat, #indonesia and many more. You can use your own language
  54. there if you want. Main channels are English only though, but it can encourage you to
  55. learn the language. Don't worry, we won't bite! Many of users here are good at teaching
  56. proper English (be it British or American English), so you can always learn from us.
  57. There are google translate too to try converse in English.
  58. You can deposit coins here too, and tipping other people your mBTCs for fun and other
  59. things. You can also try some bitcoin-based games user made here, and compete with other
  60. users in PvP-based games. There are points system too here, that we can +1 another user
  61. if we are really like their lines. It is independent from rewards system and can be used
  62. to measure our trust level. You can also personalize your accounts, adding profile
  63. picture, information, and even change the colo(u)rs of your text.
  64. For a coder, you might learn node.js programming by making a bot that hosts games or
  65. giving good information to people, like translating bots, information bots, etc.
  66. An aspiring room owner may create their own room too. The catch? None! You can create
  67. room of your own as long as the room followed network-wide rules.
  68. At the conclusion, try Coinchat yourself and enjoy the community here to the fullest!
  69. ========================================================================================
  70. 2. Features [FEA]
  71. ========================================================================================
  72. Coinchat have many features that is IRC-like, and we will cover it here. It ranges from
  73. nick autocomplete, mbtc autotips, point system, and many more.
  74. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  75. 2.a Basic Commands and Tips [BCM]
  76. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  77. These commands can be used in any room or PM in Coinchat :
  78. 1. /help - Shows a basic summary of all available commands to the user.
  79. 2. /me [chatline] - It is an action command, can be used to talk in first person and
  80. made your line italicized.
  81. 3. /join #[roomname] - Let you join a room or make a new one if it is not created yet.
  82. 4. /pm [username] - Let you PM another user.
  83. 5. /ignore [username] - Let you ignore all lines from the specified user so you won't
  84. see them anymore. You can use /ignore without any parameters
  85. to see your ignore list.
  86. 6. /unignore [username] - Let you unignore/unblock someone from your ignore list.
  87. 7. /tip [username] [amount] [notes] - let you tip another user in mBTC, the amount is
  88. in decimals. Tipping fee 20% flat applies, so
  89. the receiver won't get full amount.
  90. There are few tips and tricks too that made life in Coinchat easier :
  91. 1. Press the +NEW ROOM/PM button in left sidebar to see a list of popular rooms.
  92. 2. You can add another user as your friend by clicking their name (opening PM screen)
  93. and click the "Add Friend" button in top right sidebar. A friend will appear at
  94. friend list in roomlist window's right sidebar (after you press +NEW ROOM/PM), and
  95. their nick will be highlighted in bold everywhere in chat.
  96. 3. Coinchat will automatically fill in the username for you with the TAB command! To
  97. use it, type the first few letters of a user's name and then press TAB. For example,
  98. if you want to autocomplete 'arshvein', just write 'ars' and press TAB.
  99. 4. Coinchat has custom smilies. Click on the happy Coinchat Kitty symbol next to the
  100. Colo(u)rs tab and then click on one to use. The spam filter prevents you from using
  101. more than one of the same smiley in a message. There are 'turn on converting' feat,
  102. that converts standard smilies ( :) :P and so on) into CC smilies.
  103. 5. To see a list of active mods, you can go to #mods.
  104. 6. Sometimes, when you leave and re-enter a window, you'll see an orange dotted line.
  105. That line indicates where you last left off when you closed the window.
  106. 7. You can have a maximum of 30 rooms or PM windows open at any time. A notice will pop
  107. up when you reach 25, but the maximum number is 30.
  108. 8. There are two themes of Coinchat - 'Light' theme and 'Dark' theme. Font colo(u)rs
  109. are currently disabled in Dark theme. You can switch between themes by clicking the
  110. button in top right of CC window(it will say Dark if you are in Light theme, and
  111. vice versa).
  112. 9. There are unofficial CC roomlist in www.coinchat.info. It is useful to see most of
  113. the rooms in Coinchat.
  114. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  115. 2.b Personalization [PER]
  116. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  117. You can change your profile by clicking the green 'Profile' button on top right of CC
  118. screen. There, a pop-up box will appear and you can change your profile information.
  119. It is entirely optional, and you may choose not to fill it in case of anonymity. You can
  120. also upload your profile picture and change your password there. The profile picture
  121. are capped at 150x150 pixels, jpg or png, and maximum 10 MB in size.
  122. From top to bottom, the fields on profile information are : Age, Gender, Location, and
  123. Bio. Once you changed it, you can refresh your client to see the changes.
  124. Your profile will be shown when other user hover their mouse on your nick in any rooms
  125. except PM. It will also show your current points(will be explained in the next sub-
  126. section). You can also buy colo(u)rs for 20 mBTC each. The colo(u)r you bought can be
  127. used indefinitely once you bought it, along with your default colo(u)r. Note that the
  128. colo(u)r is in simplified, 3-code HEX colo(u)r. http://www.colorpicker.com/ is a good
  129. link to pick your colo(u)r before buying it. There are one special font, rainbow font,
  130. that can be bought at 2 BTC. To get it, you need to contact admin and discuss it with
  131. him.
  132. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  133. 2.c Points System [POI]
  134. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  135. When you chat, did you notice that there are a +1 button whenever you hover on other
  136. user's line? It is a points system, like karma system in Reddit or reputation system in
  137. G+, that we can upvote/like/+1 someone's lines if we really like it, or just want to
  138. support and trust that person. It is independent of rewards system, and work regardless
  139. of our status. Think of the +1 as form of appreciation from other users about our
  140. activity and quality of our conversation. Do not beg for it, it needs to be earned.
  141. We can add another user's point a certain times each day - it started from 2 to 3 per
  142. day, but it will increase depending on our numbers of points. So, people with more
  143. points can add another people's points more often each day.
  144. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  145. 2.d Whitelisting Level and Rewards System [WHI]
  146. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  147. In Coinchat, we can get random chance to get random autotips / rewards automatically
  148. from the system if we wrote eligible lines and produce quality chatting. An eligible
  149. line are a line that have more than 35 characters in it and didn't have any spam texts.
  150. Your odds will fluctuate because of the spam filter based on the quality of your
  151. messages - like the time between messages (posting multiple messages rapidly will lower
  152. your odds, just use the multiline tag instead), how short(or long) your message is,
  153. quality of your lines, etc. The rewards can drop in any room.
  154. There are status of each user here in coinchat that affect your autotip chance, and
  155. those status can only be changed by mods or admin. They are :
  156. 1. Blacklisted - it means the user get no rewards at all. It is signified by a '.'
  157. before 'Click to PM' text when you are hovering on your nick's lines that didn't use
  158. /me or /tip. Only problematic users get blacklisted, but it is not permanent so you
  159. can redeem yourself by making a good conversation and contribution.
  160. 2. Unwhitelisted - it means the user get low chance of attaining rewards / autotips. It
  161. is signified by a '*' before 'Click to PM' text when you are hovering on your nick's
  162. lines that didn't use /me or /tip. If you are just registered, you are on this state
  163. by default, so don't worry.
  164. 3. Whitelisted - it means the user get medium chance of attaining rewards / autotips.
  165. Your nick won't have any symbols before 'Click to PM' text when you are hovering on
  166. your nick's lines that didn't use /me or /tip. It is a status for user who have
  167. interesting conversation or contributed sufficiently in coinchat, and notified by
  168. mods here. Once again, whitelisted is not permanent, and you can be unwhitelisted
  169. back if you showed problematic behaviors, breaking the rules often, or displaying
  170. low-quality conversation even after being warned.
  171. 4. Promoted - it means the user get high chance of attaining rewards / autotips. It
  172. is signified by a '+' before 'Click to PM' text when you are hovering on your nick's
  173. lines that didn't use /me or /tip. It was given with strict criteria to user who
  174. contributed greatly to the conversation and community for a long time. It needs
  175. many mods or admin approval to get it, so it is pretty rare.
  176. How to increase your status :
  177. * DO NOT ask to be whitelisted or promoted, mods aren't supposed to whitelist people
  178. who request it.
  179. * Hang around the main rooms, #newbie, #offtopic, #bitcoin and #lobby where the mods
  180. usually lurk about.
  181. * Talk about actual stuff with other people and do NOT spam or cause trouble - to be
  182. whitelisted, the mods have to believe you're contributing to Coinchat as an actual
  183. user, not just doing this for the sake of rewards.
  184. * Keep your positive attitude at your stay in Coinchat, and you'll see the merits.
  185. * Contributing positively to the community for a long time.
  186. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  187. 2.e Deposit, Withdraw, Tipping and Fees [DWT]
  188. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  189. To either withdraw or deposit mBTC into Coinchat, you need to sign up for an inputs.io
  190. account first. It is free online wallet that supports offchain transaction.
  191. Deposit from inputs.io to Coinchat is free of charge, so we didn't need to factor any
  192. fee. To deposit, just press the deposit button in top right screen, and put the number
  193. you want to deposit. You might need to login into coinchat first. It is also
  194. instantaneous. If it is not appeared in your balance, try refreshing the page. If it is
  195. still not appeared, try contacting admin directly at admin@glados.cc.
  196. To withdraw, click the Withdraw button, put in the amount you want to take out, then put
  197. in your inputs.io email and submit. You need a minimum of 5 mBTC to withdraw, and don't
  198. withdraw all your balance, it appears that we cannot withdraw the whole balance - for
  199. example, if you have 5.5 mBTC for example, withdraw 5.45 or 5.49 instead.
  200. Withdrawal fees are based on an accruing, sliding scale:
  201. 20% fee for the first 10 mBTC.
  202. Plus 15% for next 25 mBTC,
  203. Plus 10% for next 40 mBTC,
  204. Plus 5% for the next 25 mBTC,
  205. And finally add 2% for the rest.
  206. So for example if you withdrew 120 mBTC:
  207. You'd pay 20% for the first 10 -- 2
  208. Then pay 15% for the next 25 -- 3.75
  209. Then 10% for the next 40 -- 4
  210. Then 5% on the next 25 -- 1.25
  211. And finally 2% on the remaining 20: 0.4
  212. For a total of 11.4 mBTC taken out of your withdrawal.
  213. Tipping tips and tricks :
  214. * Minimum tip amount is 0.25 mBTC.
  215. * There is a 20% flat fee docked from tips, so if you tipped 0.25 mBTC, the recipient
  216. will get 0.2 instead.
  217. * You can tip people even if they're offline!
  218. * Be careful when you tip someone. If you tip an inexistent user, the tip will be lost
  219. forever. You might need to contact admin to return it if possible.
  220. ========================================================================================
  221. 3. Rules [RUL]
  222. ========================================================================================
  223. As a chatroom and a community, Coinchat has its own rules. As an user, you might want to
  224. read and understand those rules first before going into this chatroom fully. Remember
  225. to uphold netiquette too, as people behind those nicks are real person. You can read
  226. http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html to understand about netiquette. There
  227. are Network-Wide Rules that applied to every room and PM, and there are Moderated Room
  228. Rules that only apply to official moderated rooms.
  229. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  230. 3.a Network-Wide Rules [NWR]
  231. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  232. 1. Do not spam anywhere on the Coinchat server. Spam includes, but is not limited to:
  233. * Copypasta - unless it is relevant to the conversation, don't copy paste things.
  234. * Gibberish.
  235. * Messages strictly about you earning mBTC, in example: "If I type a message over 35
  236. characters, I'll get paid. Ooh, I got 0.01 mBTC!"
  237. * Talking to yourself in other rooms or posting messages over and over with no one
  238. to read them.
  239. * Advertising where it isn't allowed by the room owners.
  240. 2. Do not flood any of the rooms, even PM. We know.
  241. 3. All bots must have the word "bot" in their name, and be reported in mods.
  242. 4. Do not mute or ban evade. To dispute a ban please email the admin at admin@glados.cc.
  243. 5. Do not do anything illegal on the server. Discussion of illegal activities is allowed
  244. to a certain point (i.e. drugs). If it's something that can get the site in trouble,
  245. it isn't allowed.
  246. 6. Don't post links to malware or malicious websites.
  247. 7. Do not impersonate other users or create accounts with names mimicking or
  248. impersonating others.
  249. 8. Don't advertise anywhere where it isn't allowed by the room owners.
  250. 9. Don't mention coinpr0n in anywhere else.
  251. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  252. 3.b Moderated Room Rules [MRR]
  253. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  254. Four of the rooms in Coinchat are actively moderated, they are #offtopic, #lobby,
  255. #bitcoin and #newbie. They are often users' first impression of Coinchat, so they are
  256. moderated more strictly than the rest of the site. You can create and set your own
  257. rules in your own rooms as long as they don't break the network rules.
  258. 1. Network rules apply.
  259. 2. Don't post NSFW stuff (NSFW means Not Safe For Work). Go to other room for that.
  260. 3. NO REFERRAL LINKS. That includes CoinURL links and the like. You can post such
  261. links in #reflinks and #links.
  262. 4. Do NOT beg or ask for tips in either room. To do that, you can go to #begging.
  263. 5. No advertisement unless it is really relevant to the conversation. Room advertising
  264. are okay to some extent if the room are a discussion room, not a gamble room. It is
  265. okay to promote your own room if it is not too frequent and not disrupting current
  266. flow of conversation.
  267. 6. No trolling or flamewars.
  268. 7. If a mod asks you to drop a subject, please do so.
  269. 8. Bots are NOT allowed in #offtopic and only certain bots are allowed in #lobby.
  270. 9. Do not use hate words - racial and anti-gay slurs, sexist names, things like that.
  271. Hate speech is not allowed and is deeply frowned upon.
  272. 10. Colo(u)rs that is very bright or contrast to the eyes are not allowed to be used.
  273. It includes white that is virtually invisible until selected. You can use it
  274. in any other room you want, just not in moderated channels.
  275. 11. English only in the moderated rooms. You are welcome to stay in the modded rooms
  276. in other languages, please go to the appropriate room. An occasional reply in
  277. your native language is okay, as long as it is not disrupting a conversation or
  278. develop into a full conversation with that language in moderated rooms.
  279. 12. Don't talk about yours or other people's auto-tips. You can go to #meta for that.
  280. ========================================================================================
  281. 4. Advanced and Miscellaneous Stuff [AMS]
  282. ========================================================================================
  283. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  284. 4.a Room Creation and Management [RCM]
  285. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  286. As a user, you can create your own room if the room name is not yet taken by other user.
  287. You can either use +NEW ROOM/PM and put the room name in the text box, and click JOIN /
  288. CREATE, or use /join #[roomname] - if the room isn't there, it will be automatically
  289. created with you as an owner. You can only own five rooms at most, so carefully choose
  290. what room you will handle here. If no one is inside the room, the room will be destroyed
  291. automatically and you can create new room (if you are at the room cap).
  292. These commands are only available in room (it cannot be used inside a PM) :
  293. 1. /listop - Gives the list of all assigned operators of the room. A room owner is an
  294. operator too unless they are deopped by other operator.
  295. 2. /op [username] and /deop [username] - Sets a user as an op and removes op status
  296. from a user, respectively. Only works if you
  297. are that room's operator.
  298. 3. /kick [username] and /unkick [username] - Kickbans and unbans a person from a room,
  299. respectively. Only works if you are that
  300. room's operator.
  301. 4. /set private and /unset private - Sets and unsets a room as a private room. Only a
  302. friend of room owner can enter a private room.
  303. Only works if you are that room's operator.
  304. 5. /topic [new channel topic] - Sets a channel's topic to the new ones. Limited to 494
  305. character maximum. You can put links in topic, using
  306. http/https.
  307. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  308. 4.b Bot Making [BOT]
  309. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  310. In Coinchat, there are bots, like in IRC chatroom. They are not allowed to autopost
  311. things, however. Bots here need to be interactive with a normal 'human' user, either for
  312. games, or doing some other services like translation, currency converter, etc. There are
  313. few rules regarding bots that user can create here :
  314. 1. Bots must have a separate account with "bot" in its name.
  315. 2. Bots can NEVER post messages unprompted.
  316. 3. The only exception to that rule is that they can post an ad in their own room
  317. a couple times per day, and not too frequent.
  318. Those bots need to be created and written in node.js and socket.io, as Coinchat are
  319. built on node.js. Do note that there are already many bots around - if you want to make
  320. a bot, try making some bots that is utilitarian (non-gambling) or unique that it is the
  321. only one in Coinchat.
  322. These are useful tutorial links to make a bot for Coinchat :

  325. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  326. 4.c Abbreviation List [ABV]
