  1. The Deep Web is the hidden underside of the internet as it is known, unreachable by search engines on the surface. It is characterised by anonymity and as such, can only be accessed by tor.
  2. Tor (short for the onion router) is a system that directs traffic through a worldwide network of volunteers, rendering the user anonymous. The traffic is routed through an "entry node", a "relay node" and then finally through an "exit node". The exit node is about to see traffic coming through but is unable to know the source. Exta precautions need to be taken to be completely anonymous but tor is a great start.
  3. The main portal to the Deep Web is the hidden wiki, found by entering http://kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion into tor. It is astounding what can be accessed through this portal; from hitmen, weapons, drugs, money laundering and child pornography. Not all of the content, however, is concerned with illegal activites. Free speach enables different philosophies and research studies to reach a wider audience.
  4. The currency used primarily on the Deep Web is know as the bitcoin, devoid of a regulatory financial institution. It is possible through various techniques to make the transaction anonymous which is imperative.
  5. When privacy seems to be eroding at an alarming rate, it is refreshing to find that there is an alternative, where your search terms and content is not monitored for financial gain.
