  1. I. EXORDIUM:
  2. Are you a person of the new covenant?
  3. II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
  4. Believers
  5. III. OBJECTIVES:
  6. To show the old covenant is obsolete and we're no longer under the old covenant.
  7. IV. TEXT:
  8. Hebrews 8:13 (Amplified Bible)
  9. 8:13 When God speaks of a new [covenant or agreement], He makes the first one obsolete (out of use). And what is obsolete (out of use and annulled because of age) is ripe for disappearance and to be dispensed with altogether.
  10. V. THESIS:
  11. Thank You LORD JESUS for the New Covenant which You are the Mediator, I'm in a better, nobler and more gracious covenant compared to the first covenant.
  12. VI. TITLE:
  13. GOD speaks of a new covenant
  14. VII. EXPLICATION:
  15. A. Date of writing: Before AD. 70
  16. B. Style of writing: Best Greek style
  17. C. Authorship: Not specific, but generally attributed to Apostle Paul. Can be also ascribed to Barnabas, Luke, Apollos
  18. D. Audience: Hebrew Christians
  19. E. Theme: Christ is superior to the prophets; Christ is superior to angels—J. Vernon McGee's Thru The Bible
  20. F. Purpose: The chief doctrinal purpose of the writer was to show the transcendent glory of the Christian dispensation, as compared with that of the Old Testament.—Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines
  21. VIII. MAIN BODY:
  22. A. GOD makes the first covenant obsolete
  23. "When God speaks of a new [covenant or agreement], He makes the first one obsolete (out of use)."
  24. Hebrews 8:8 (Amplified Bible)
  25. 8:8 However, He finds fault with them [showing its inadequacy] when He says, Behold, the days will come, says the Lord, when I will make and ratify a new covenant or agreement with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
  26. Hebrews 7:11-12 (Amplified Bible)
  27. 7:11 Now if perfection (a perfect fellowship between God and the worshiper) had been attainable by the Levitical priesthood—for under it the people were given the Law—why was it further necessary that there should arise another and different kind of Priest, one after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one appointed after the order and rank of Aaron?
  28. 7:12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is of necessity an alteration of the law [concerning the priesthood] as well.
  29. Hebrews 7:18-19 (Amplified Bible)
  30. 7:18 So a previous physical regulation and command is cancelled because of its weakness and ineffectiveness and uselessness—
  31. 7:19 For the Law never made anything perfect—but instead a better hope is introduced through which we [now] come close to God.
  32. Hebrews 9:9-10 (Amplified Bible)
  33. 9:9 Seeing that that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper.
  34. 9:10 For [the ceremonies] deal only with clean and unclean meats and drinks and different washings, [mere] external rules and regulations for the body imposed to tide the worshipers over until the time of setting things straight [of reformation, of the complete new order when Christ, the Messiah, shall establish the reality of what these things foreshadow—a better covenant].
  35. The first covenant with all it's sacrifices and rituals are already obsolete, because JESUS as the Perfect Sacrifice already came to this earth. With His body and blood, He replaced all animal sacrifices and He has done it once and for all.
  36. Hebrews 7:27 (Amplified Bible)
  37. 7:27 He has no day by day necessity, as [do each of these other] high priests, to offer sacrifice first of all for his own [personal] sins and then for those of the people, because He [met all the requirements] once for all when He brought Himself [as a sacrifice] which He offered up.
  38. B. The old covenant will disappear because it's obsolete
  39. "And what is obsolete (out of use and annulled because of age) is ripe for disappearance and to be dispensed with altogether."
  40. Isaiah 51:6 (Amplified Bible)
  41. 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall be dissolved and vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner [like gnats]. But My salvation shall be forever, and My rightness and justice [and faithfully fulfilled promise] shall not be abolished.
  42. 2 Peter 3:10 (Amplified Bible)
  43. 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish (pass away) with a thunderous crash, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.
  44. Hebrews 1:11 (Amplified Bible)
  45. 1:11 They will perish, but You remain and continue permanently; they will all grow old and wear out like a garment.
  46. The old covenant will disappear like this old heaven and earth disappears because it will no longer be needed in the New Heavens and New Earth. We are no longer governed by the old covenant since it's already obsolete in it's usage, but what we are now under in the New Covenant of Grace where the LORD'S finished work is our focus.
  47. IX. CONCLUSION:
  48. Thank You LORD JESUS for the New Covenant which You are the Mediator, I'm in a better, nobler and more gracious covenant compared to the first covenant.
  49. Hebrews 12:24 (Amplified Bible)
  50. 12:24 And to Jesus, the Mediator (Go-between, Agent) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance].
