  34. Hi,
  35. What you require is KVM VPS, I bet you can find something. You haven't said anything about your budget though.
  36. Budget is $30-$35/m for the resources I mentioned.

  38. you need to increase your budget for the dedicated resource, you should go with dedicated servers.
  39. KVM VPS also oversold.
  40. Its highly unlikely you find what you are looking for at that budget unless you find someone offering very old hardware.
  41. You can search for Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) or Semi-Dedicated Server as different companies use both these terms. Beware of Semi-Dedicated Hosting though, this often referrers to a shared hosting account with dedicated amounts of ram, etc.

  47. at that price closest is Linode 8GB 4CPU, 160GB VPS for US$40/month in their Singapore datacenter. But it's not dedicated cpus - but i haven't had any trouble utilising fully my cpus on my Linode VPSes before

  51. Quick Tip: Definitely you have to pick wise for your budget and ask yourself if you really can afford what are trying to accomplish. Sometimes we would like to invest money on some type of business ideas or something that we really want to do but the question is are you ready to pay what is worth it?
  52. Whether you have one core CPU or 120 cores on a 4-socket server, only one task executes at any point in time. And each task gets a fair shot at hogging the CPU(s). So when you have a 32-core dedicated server with 32 VMs on it and the kernel has to juggle 1000 tasks each second, the scheduler will try to be just and fair and if some tasks miss their deadline it doesn't care much. When you provision a VM with dedicated CPUs, you can market it as "dedicated" all you want. The harsh reality is that it will never be dedicated.
  53. You want to take the elevator and get to your 8th floor condo, but you have to wait for the elevator to come to you and all to get out at their floor first. Or get your own house.

  60. It is possible to dedicated CPU cores to individual VMs. Xen and KVM calls this "Pinning" the CPU core. It locks that core(s) to only be used by the VPS assigned. We have extensively tested this on our side and can say when implemented correct and you properly dedicated assign to the cores, you are getting a true dedicate core. After that is becomes a matter of hard drives, network interfaces, and that are still shared.
  61. We have had one dedicated core max 100% out and the rest of the VMs on the same hardware on their own cores show absolutely zero signs of slow down or issues.

  68. Yes CPU affinity has been there in the Linux kernel for decades. It definitely needs to be configured right otherwise the VM can lock up. But the issue isn't of availability, it's rather a time slot issue. There's only so much you can slice a second (HZ), have the scheduler switch between tasks fairly, and not affect deadlines.
  69. Say you have two lightly used cores that are dedicated to your VM (pinned/affinity). If the scheduler is busy juggling/dequeuing and context-switching a thousand task from different VMs and your VM's task is at the very end of the queue, it's going to have to wait for its turn. Regardless if your two dedicated cores are idle or not.
  70. But I'm not dismissing this completely. A well managed host node can work really well when pinning cores correctly.

  75. Is there any provider that offers vps with dedicated resources (cpu, ram, bandwidth etc)?
  76. No*, not at your price point anyway.
  77. Next easy question?
  78. * There is not really anything like dedicated resources for a VPS. There can be guarantees and guaranteed minimums - but it defeats the purpose of running the VPS in the first place if you're going to lock up resources for it when those resources might not actually be used by that VPS every millisecond of every day.
  79. If you want truly dedicated resources, get a dedicated server. Problem solved.
  80. Edit: And if you do find a provider willing to dedicate that number of cores and that much RAM to your VPS - you are not going to convince that provider to do so for ~$35 a month.
