Thanks Daniele for joining me at the Toronto Global Forum this year.
Building on the Community Hub strategy that BMO helped kickstart in 2009 with United Way Greater Toronto, two years ago we resolved to focus our work together on the growing divide of economic opportunity in GTA neighbourhoods. We convened the ’Inclusive Local Economic Opportunity Initiative’ (ILEO for short) and invited leaders from the corporate, not-for-profit and public sectors to join us to chart a new way of working together.
After working with the City to identify the Greater Golden Mile neighbourhood in Scarborough as the first place to pilot the model, we set out to develop a series of collaborative projects that bring together all of these sectors to create more economic opportunities for residents.
ILEO is now yielding promising developments with this unique multi-sector model at its core. As we work to recover and ultimately grow out of the pandemic, with new land development and generational infrastructure projects like the Eglinton LRT taking shape across Toronto, we must ensure that economic gains made locally are shared locally – exactly what ILEO is designed to do.
You can learn more about ILEO and the great work of the United Way Greater Toronto in this video.
