computer does this annoying thing often that when I plug in my headphones, the music will get muted and not play on my headphones. It will playback on speakers but not on my headphones. When I restart the computer, the headphones begin to work again till I plug/unplug it again.
Any advice?

Download the latest drivers for your sound card.

Check your settings, is the headphones set to default?
Failing that test the headphones to ensure it's not them.
Then try drivers.
and if it's none of those its prob a hardware issue, try reseating the soundcard or checking the wires to the jack.
