  36. Rooting is not essential to ricing but it provides a lot more options to ricing your device, such as:

  39. - Hiding of the nav bar and status bar
  40. - Changing the size of the UI
  41. - Custom LED coloring for notifications
  42. - Probably more that I forgot to list
  44. XDA Developers has a board for every individual device and instructions on how to achieve root.

  48. ROMs are custom software that you flash to your phone after rooting. Each ROM has it's own advantages and disadvantages, so be sure to research your ROM before flashing.
